GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Utility staff position is responsible for the following: dish-washing, pot-washing; general kitchen cleaning duties; storing food and non-food supplies; and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Maintains safe, sanitary, and orderly conditions in all work areas.
2. Cleans all work areas according to proper infection control procedures.
3. Sets up dish/pot washing areas.
4. Performs all dish, pot, and utensil washing following all meals.
5. Distributes and stores clean dishes, pots, and utensils according to procedure.
6. Cleans and sanitizes production equipment, floors, work surfaces, and other kitchen areas

according to cleaning schedules and procedures.

1. Empties trash containers as required.
2. Assists kitchen staff with storing food and non-food supplies as directed including breaking down all boxes before placing in trash receptacles.
3. Completes all items on shift check-list.

OTHER DUTIES:

1. Attends all mandatory staff meetings, in-services, education sessions, etc.
2. Maintains a high level of customer service for our residents & their guests at all times.
3. Uses all safety equipment & follows safety procedures according to GCV policies.
4. Maintains high standard of personal hygiene & grooming; complies with GCV’s dress code (including wearing a hairnet, if requested)
5. Completes all assigned cleaning and other tasks.
6. Performs other specific work duties & responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to effectively communicate & follow instructions in English both orally and in writing 
2. Ability to perform simple mathematics.
3. Experience with dishwashing and kitchen work preferred.
4. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
5.  Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, coworkers, and Director – Food & Beverage; requires courtesy, tact, and graciousness.
6. Ability to function independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to stand/walk for 100% of the work day (4 – 8 hour shift).
2. Ability to work indoors and outdoors as required.
3. Must be able to see, hear, and speak or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure position requirements can be fully met.
4. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
5. Must be able to independently lift, balance, and carry up to 50 pounds.
6. Must be able to stoop, bend, balance & reach frequently throughout the work day.
7. Must have good manual dexterity for operating a fire extinguisher, telephone, and appropriate Food & Beverage equipment.
8. Must be able to perform sweeping/mopping functions with ease.
9. May be exposed to quick variance of hot and cold temperatures from ovens, freezers/coolers, dishwashing equipment, etc.
10. May be exposed to industrial cleaning and other chemicals, dust, hot water temperatures, and offensive odors daily.
11. May be exposed to communicable diseases and blood/body fluids that may contain HBV and HIV viruses.
12. Must be able to maintain mental & visual attention to diversified operations;
13. Must be able to function efficiently despite distractions and interruptions.
