Green River College is Hiring a Psychology Instructor - Tenure Track Near Street, WA

The Social Science Division at Green River College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Psychology beginning Fall 2025. The Psychology Department seeks an innovative instructor of Psychology to teach lower division courses including but not limited to: General Psychology, Biological Psychology, Psychology Statistics, and Psychology Research Methods. The successful candidate will be teaching classes on campus. Online work may be available in the future. We seek an instructor who embraces the community college mission, is passionate about teaching, advising, and empowering students, and is committed to engage in activities within the Social Science Division and the College.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

  • Teach Psychology on-campus classes as part of the College’s academic transfer program. Courses include General Psychology, Biological Psychology, Psychology Statistics, and Psychology Research Methods.
  • The ability to design and develop curriculum for new Psychology courses.
  • Use and manage technology in the classroom.
  • Build classes in learning management systems, such as Canvas.
  • Advise students, serve on committees, and perform other duties as outlined in the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.
  •  Advance the educational success of underrepresented and underserved communities. 
  • Participate in College and Division professional activities.
  • Maintain strong collegial and collaborative relationships within the Psychology Department, the Social Science Division, and the broader Green River College campus community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Biological Psychology.
  • Experience teaching college-level classes (full- or part-time) in Biological Psychology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Psychology with an emphasis in Biological Psychology or significant graduate level coursework beyond a psychology master’s degree in biological psychology.
  • Experience teaching college-level biopsychology courses as the instructor of record. 
  • Two years of experience teaching college-level courses in psychology.
  • Experience teaching at a community college. 
  • Experience in the management and use of technology in the classroom.
  • Experience building classes in learning management systems, such as Canvas.
  • Experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as those with disabilities or other minority statuses.

  • Cover letter that clearlyand specifically addresses each of the minimum qualifications and preferred qualifications.
  • Curriculum Vitae including three names and contact information for persons familiar with your teaching ability.
  • Copies of transcripts documenting all undergraduate and graduate degrees and all relevant coursework (originals required upon hire. Unofficial transcripts are sufficient for the application).
  • In a page, briefly describe your experience teaching Biological Psychology, Psychology Statistics, and Psychology Research Methods.
  • Responses to the supplemental questions.
