Green River College is looking for an Instructional Lab Technician who is able to coordinate technical support services required by the instructor for beginning, intermediate, and advanced college ceramics classes. Provide support for all ceramic program activities, including lab preparations, equipment maintenance, and demonstrations related to instruction. Provide technical support to students about the processes involved in the hand-building, wheel-throwing, glazing, and firing of clay.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE:Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must have the ability to sit for prolonged period of time at a desk/computer workstation.
- Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions.
- Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments.
- Work in an office setting with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to maintain “regular and predictable attendance”.
- Dusty work conditions.
- May need to carry, lift or move equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs (wet or dry ceramic materials).
- Lots of bending, lifting and time on your feet – work shoes are required.
- Work conditions may vary from very cold (in winter) to very hot (in summer).
- Must be comfortable working with equipment associated with a college ceramics program – competent in handling ceramic ware at all stages of the process.
- Willing to work/fire to meet course deadlines.
- Knowledge of emergency protocols, evacuation procedures, use of fire extinguishers, and basic first aid.
- Work schedule: 8 hours/day, five days a week.
- Term of Position: Cyclic: 11 months
