Position Overview: 

This position is responsible for leading engineering efforts in global product development projects through unique, new, and existing product line design and development initiatives, in conjunction with Marketing, Sourcing, Quality, third parties, and our supplier network.

This position will support all Legacy Company Divisions.

Job Responsibilities: 

The selected individual must have good knowledge in taking product designsfrom concept through development and into production launch. The Director of NPD and Engineering will manage and mentor NPD Managers and will work with the ID, marketing, and sourcing teams to lead and direct resources in creating engineering specs and drawings for the NPD projects. This individual will be responsible for the design, validation, and testing of design concepts, using internal or external resources. He or she will work with manufacturing suppliers as needed. Other responsibilities will be assumed as directed by management.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical capabilities with a collaborative approach to solving product development/engineering problems and working with people. He or she must be comfortable working with all functions of the business and be a strong contributor to product innovation. In addition, he or she will possess the following attributes:

Education/Experience 

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related industry experience required; household electric products a plus. 
  • Strong experience in developing complex electro-mechanical appliances required.
  • Good knowledge with UL, CSA, ETL agency approvals required.
  • Familiarity with European, Australian and Middle East product requirements and agency approvals desired.
  • Proficiency in utilization of CAD systems is required. SolidWorks preferred, Pro-E a plus.
  • Good knowledge on injection molded plastic and sheet metal parts is desired. Tooling knowledge a plus.
  • PCB layout and circuit design/testing a plus.
  • Knowledge on design for manufacturability and FMEA is desired.
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical testing equipments and tools, required.
  • Good organization & attention to detail skills, required.
  • Experience working with tooling/manufacturing facilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, required. 
  • Excellent teamwork skills. 
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). 
  • Excellent presentation skills, self-confidence, maturity, as well as the ability to work alone.
  • Ability to work in a heavily deadline-oriented environment. Ability to work individually and as part of a team. Ability to identify, research, coordinate, and resolves issues.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to work in office and manufacturing environments.
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from high-speed computer printers and other peripherals.
