Preference will be given to those applicants with work or lived experience with culturally, linguistically and racially diverse communities.POSITION SUMMARY: The Groundskeeper maintains attractive grounds in and around all district facilities to provide safe recreational outdoor space for students and the community. This position operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, maintaining proper upkeep of the equipment, and ensuring the availability of required equipment.Minimum QualificationsEducation, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification
  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability, possess (or have the ability to obtain within six months of hire) licenses as may be required by the district; Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance; and current First Aid /CPR Card
  • Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent

Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Methods and use of tools and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance
  • Safe work practices, standards for safe use of fertilizers, chemicals and equipment
  • Building materials such as concrete and asphalt
  • Personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software applications
  • Reading and interpreting plans
  • Operating equipment in safe manner
  • Perform basic math necessary to calculate fertilizer and chemical applications
  • Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions
  • Functioning as a self-starter, who works well independently or in a team
  • Planning, prioritizing and completing assignments with minimum supervision
  • Handling multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Mows, fertilizes, aerates, cultivates, applies top dressing, seeds, mulch, weeds, plants and prunes grounds around district facilities
  • Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g. storm drains, rain gutters, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards
  • Maintains grounds keeping equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition
  • Maintains landscaping (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, planted areas, irrigation, fences, playgrounds, etc.) for the purpose of preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition
  • Plants various landscaping materials (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the areas attractive and protecting against erosion
  • Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
  • Prepares grounds (e.g. ball fields, courtyards, flower beds) for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies and/or recreational activity
  • Evaluates situations to take appropriate action and/or direct the situation to the appropriate personnel for resolution
  • Cross-trains in a variety of groundskeeping functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Evaluates landscaped areas, equipment, sprinkler systems and grounds (e.g. fields, parking areas, etc.) for the purpose of identifying repairs and/or replacement needs, maintain schedules and preventing erosion
  • Requests materials, supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks
  • Supports the relationship between the Gresham-Barlow School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors and district staff
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to:
  • Sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Talk and hear conversations
  • Use precise control of fingers and hand movement, often in a repetitive movement such as keyboarding
  • Reach for and handle objects
  • Use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly focus on a computer screen
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting up to 15-45 pounds may also be required on occasion
