Griffith Centers is Hiring a Special Education Director Near Colorado, CO

Nature of Position: The Special Education Director is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the school and day treatment program. This position assists in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of staff and plans, develops, implements, and administers programs and services to meet identified needs, including development and implementation of new programs and services. Must have exemplary leadership and decision-making skills and maintain an excellent working environment while keeping all kids in our care safe. This role provides administrative leadership to the education team and the direct care staff. Ensures financial controls are in place, acts as a good steward of financial resources available to program.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Master’s Degree higher degree in Special Education or in a related field of special services from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ verifiable experience working with adolescents in the human services field, preferably in a day treatment and/or residential treatment environment.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of supervisory and administrative experience.
  • Must be familiar with adolescent substance abuse issues.
  • Holds a CDE License in Special Education or Principal.
  • Has completed an approved program for the preparation of Special Education Director or Principal.
  • Has a minimum of two years’ experience working with students with disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Able to work with sensitivity to the cultural and/or socioeconomic diversity of the agency’s clients and staff.
  • Must pass a background check, drug screening, physical exam, have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel on behalf of the agency.
Responsibilities:Personnel:
  • Provides direct supervision for the principal.
  • Assists the Principal with resolving personnel matters.
  • Ensures supervisory staff maintain compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of staff orientation and staff development programs.
  • Coordinates with supervisory staff to ensure that staff ratios are maintained according to agency standards and in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Assists the People Operations Director with the recruitment of personnel for the education department.
  • Will work occasional weekend, holiday and evening hours as necessary to facilitate around-the-clock operations.
Administrative:
  • Serves as a member of the Director team responsible for developing program and agency budgets and managing to annual budget.
  • Develops agency policies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as Department of Human Services, Medicaid, Council on Accreditation, Mental Health, etc.
  • Conducts meetings and participates in local, state, and regional special education meetings as necessary.
  • Plans and carries out in-services to meet staff development needs and provides technological support for computerized IEP program.
  • Consults with school personnel and parents of children with disabilities regarding appropriate programming and/or follow-up services and ensures appropriate reporting to parents.
  • Handles extreme behavioral challenges in a school environment.
  • Ensures all curriculum is in alignment with CDE expectations and student needs.
  • Prepares and retains a staffing plan indicating the personnel assignments and duties.
  • Acts as a liaison between the facility and the community.
  • Assures safety standards are adhered to by clients and staff. This includes assuring that necessary emergency drills (fire, evacuation, etc.) are completed.
  • Serves as a member of the Performance Quality Indicators (PQI) meeting process, to include monitoring of activities and documenting and consulting with other administrative staff regarding any incidents of concern.
  • Assists with on-going Quality Assurance programs.
  • Coordinates and monitor expenditures for department.
  • Fulfills periodic administrative on-call duties as required.
Licensing:
  • Ensures the Griffith Centers is in compliance with licensing and Council on Accreditation (COA) standards at all times.
  • Recommends changes to facilitate compliance with licensing standards.
  • Complete monthly safety review of assigned units and take necessary action to assure safety issues are addressed.
Professional:
  • Identifies problems/concerns and actively contributes to their resolution.
  • Collaborates with others to fulfill responsibilities related to education goals and priorities.
