Join us as a Technical Product Owner. We are a mission-driven company dedicated to creating safe environments for everyone. This pivotal role offers the chance to steer our 2024 software roadmap and lead Express software releases across various technical domains such as real-time software, AI algorithms, computer vision, wireless tablets, portal and cloud applications, advanced diagnostics, and cyber security posture improvements.

You'll tackle the challenge of juggling multiple priorities and mastering the technical complexities of the company's products. Your work will have a profound impact, driving customer-focused solutions, leading market innovations, and enhancing product quality. Your contributions will shape cutting-edge products that make a real difference, ensuring the safety and security of communities worldwide.

Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Within the First Month:

  • Participate in our new hire orientation
  • Gain complete familiarity in operating Gen1 Express and accessing/navigating embedded computer; learn as much as possible about Gen2 Express.
  • Author at least one Technical Requirement Document (TRD), showcasing your ability to detail technical specifications clearly and accurately.
  • Display a driven and enthusiastically curious attitude towards understanding the intricacies of Express, as well as our systems and processes.
  • Demonstrate your capability to verify that new features meet Product Requirements. Bonus points for proactively identifying and reporting a bug!
  • Establish close and frequent communication with your Product Manager counterpart, the team of Technical Product Owners and all immediate co-workers. Build a comprehensive understanding of their roles and expertise within our large software development team.

Within the First Three Months:

  • Successfully oversee a complete release cycle from initiation to deployment, taking full ownership of the process.
  • Lead bug triage meetings effectively, showcasing your problem-solving skills and technical insight.
  • Manage key Express feature development efforts using the Digital Product Roadmap (DPR) Jira Board, ensuring a smooth and efficient development process.
  • Provide clear and concise DPR read-outs to cross-functional leads, maintaining a communicative and responsive stance in our fast-paced development environment.
  • Actively involve yourself in Software Delivery, ensuring that your hands-on approach leads to high-quality outcomes.

By the End of the First Year:

  • Establish yourself as the go-to person for the technical questions related to Product feature requests, demonstrating deep knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of Express software maintainability and serviceability, leading to enhanced product reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide strategic assessments of Technical Product Management responsibilities. Recommend and implement optimizations, identify opportunities for improvements through automation, and make better use of existing or new tools.
  • Specify and implement at least one significant process improvement, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of our product development lifecycle.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Technical Expertise and Documentation:
  • Possess a deep understanding of the technical aspects of the Express product to assess feasibility and risks, and excel in authoring, negotiating, and maintaining Technical Requirement Documents (TRDs) throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Strategic Communication and Advocacy:
  • Serve as a key liaison, effectively communicating and representing the Product Team's vision within R&D as needed. Advocate for product features that enhance quality, maintainability, and serviceability, ensuring alignment between technical capabilities and product goals.
  • Project Coordination and Agile Leadership:
  • Lead agile processes, including team stand-ups, backlog management, and grooming sessions. Drive the end-to-end software release process, adjusting schedules and feature payloads as needed, and ensuring stakeholder alignment through effective coordination and communication.
  • Release Management and Quality Assurance:
  • Oversee the complete release cycle, working with the SQA team to ensure quality software is delivered on time. Help oversee beta testing, drive Release Readiness Review meetings, and facilitate regular product demonstrations to showcase progress and gather feedback and assemble engineering change requests for document control.
  • Strategic Impact and Market Leadership:
  • Contribute significantly to the organization's strategic direction by guiding the implementation of market-driven product development specified by the Product Team, balancing innovation with product quality enhancement.
  • Prioritization and Complexity Management:
  • Skillfully manage and prioritize multiple competing priorities, embracing the technical complexities of the company's products. Maintain a clear focus on delivering value and driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Technical Leadership and Roadmap Command:
  • Exhibit strong leadership in specifying technical requirements and overseeing software releases. Steer the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with broader business goals and market needs, and driving the development of quality products that resonate with customers.

You will be joining the R&D Organization and reporting to our Technical Product Manager.

The R&D organization comprises more than 60 dedicated developers, engineers, and managers with deep expertise who are always willing to help.

Where is the role located?

This role is based out of the HQ in Waltham, Massachusetts. Due to the nature of our software enabled hardware products, this position requires 80% on-site minimum.
