Job DescriptionGuardant Health is looking for a highly detail-oriented Senior Accountant who will contribute to the general ledger team of a publicly traded multinational company. This position will have the opportunity to build processes, collaborate cross-functionally, and play a key role in the team’s ability to scale.
The ideal candidate must have proven in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, proficiency in accounting systems, analytical skills, and motivation contributing to an accurate, high quality, and efficient monthly, quarterly, annual close, and financial reporting process.
To be successful, the incumbent will be a strong people leader, collaborator, communicator, and project/process manager, capable of delivering accurate results under tight deadlines and ability to thoughtfully identify business needs, with the focus on details and the drive for continuous improvement. The position will be based in our Palo Alto office reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting.
Primary Responsibilities:
- The position will be responsible for the Company’s month-end accrual process.
- Prepare and/or conduct detailed reviews of journal entries, and account reconciliations for all accruals including general, clinical, legal, benefit, goods in transit (GIT), and prepaid expenses.
- Partner with FP&A, Accounts Payable, Legal, and Clinical departments to develop and maintain robust processes that ensure the completeness and accuracy of accruals.
- Maintain and/or manage the Company’s accrual management software (Gappify).
- Proactively examine purchase orders to assess the percentage of completion or timing of delivery of goods or services.
- Perform trend analysis on assigned income statement and balance sheet accounts and ensure all significant fluctuations are properly explained and supported.
- Play a key role in the development, implementation, and improvement of general ledger accounting operations and related system and process improvements
- Support maintenance of desktop procedures to ensure current processes are accurately documented
- Coordinate and resolve issues of accounting matters with other internal and external personnel within the area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with Company accounting policies and the application of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Assist in quarterly and annual auditors’ and SOX reviews and provide reconciliation support to help facilitate an optimal audit process.
- Serve as backup on month-end duties assigned to other team members.
- Utilize ERP to obtain and analyze complex financial information. Confer with technical teams to design and develop reports.
- As necessary, contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned and perform independent and objective project analysis to support management with the decision-making process.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics required. CPA with Big 4 public accounting experience a plus.
- 7 years of relevant experience in a public company is required.
- Must have large ERP systems experience (Oracle Fusion, Blackline, Gappify Software a plus).
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, SOX, and SEC reporting.
- Advanced MS Excel skills including lookups, sumif formulas and pivot tables required.
- Provide strong leadership, coaching, and training to one general ledger accountant, fostering professional development and growth
- Experience building out processes, procedures, and workflows that enable sustainable scaling of the business.
- Ability to effectively work across teams and levels, both within the accounting functions and across functions, including Tax, Supply Chain, Facilities, IT, and senior leadership.
- Ability to analyze and write commentary to explain results/variances in a concise and clear manner.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, ability to link information together, and solution-oriented individual.
- Self-motivated individual with demonstrated experience and continuous desire in improving and streamlining processes.
- Must be adaptable, agile, able to multi-task, and take on additional responsibilities as necessary.
- Possesses energy, and enthusiasm to drive results, action-oriented. Exhibit a sense of urgency towards attaining department goals, issue resolution and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to thrive in a creative, dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and resources effectively, while meeting deadlines and delivering quality work.

- Demonstrates strong proficiency and knowledge in area(s) of expertise and company business and proficiency in strategic and financial processes.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills, including effective verbal and written communication, listens to and understands various viewpoints, shares relevant information timely, provides constructive feedback and maintains professionalism.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships that establish trust, credibility, and confidence.
- Promotes collaboration and assists others with their initiatives and efforts.
