Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Veterinary Assistant in our mobile equine sports medicine veterinary practice based out of Houston, TX.
As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting Dr. Guardia in providing top-notch care to equine athletes. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in all aspects of equine medical procedures, ensuring the well-being, comfort, and safety of our patients. This role requires an experienced horseperson with extensive skill in handling horses of all types, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mobile environment. Must be licensed to safely drive a large truck on busy highways.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Assist Dr. Guardia in performing equine medical procedures, including examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
2. Handle and restrain horses safely and effectively during procedures.
3. Prepare and maintain equipment, instruments, and treatment areas to ensure cleanliness and efficiency.
4. Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, noting any changes in condition and reporting to the veterinarian.
5. Assist with the maintenance of accurate medical records, invoicing, payment management, and documentation.
6. Provide exceptional client service, including answering communication via phone, text, and email.
7. Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies as needed.
8. Assist with the organization and coordination of mobile clinic visits and appointments.
9. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and protocols related to veterinary care and animal welfare.
Requirements:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required; Veterinary Assistant certification or relevant experience preferred, but not required.
2. Previous experience working with horses required. Must have horse sense. We are not seeking someone who wants to spend time with horses; We need someone who can handle horses without excessive instruction so the doctor can trust the horse is in safe hands and can focus on the client’s needs, examination, and treatment of the horse.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, veterinarians, and team members.
4. Ability to handle and restrain horses safely and confidently.
5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, mobile environment.
7. Flexibility to work varied hours; option for part-time or full-time
9. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; must pass a drug screen.
