Position Location is in: Bohemia, NY
Bloodhound Laboratories is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory located in a busy veterinary specialty and emergency hospital. We are a private veterinarian-owned laboratory that provides diagnostics to our hospitals, as well as, local animal hospitals. We have two laboratory locations in New York state. We are currently looking for a motivated, organized and reliable laboratory technician to join our laboratory team in Bohemia, NY.
DUTIES:
· Performs analytical procedures in various laboratory sections, such as Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology and Serology
· Performs qualitative testing using established procedures on various analyzers and/or manual methods on animal specimens such as blood, urine, feces and other body fluids
· Performs calibration, quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
· Operates and understands laboratory protocols, results entry and record keeping systems
· Performs testing procedures and reports test results accurately
· Ability to recognize abnormal test results and report discrepancies to managers
· Prepare and pack samples for reference laboratories using send out testing protocols
· Organize work by accessioning specimens, labels, sorting specimens, logging specimens and keeping work area clean and orderly in accordance to protocols
· Confidence in customer service skills provided to local animal hospitals in reference to inquiries about tests, sample protocols and turnaround times
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Requires manual dexterity to operate equipment and computers
· Requires frequent walking/standing
· Must be able to discriminate the colors necessary to perform tests in their assigned sections of responsibility
· Multi-tasking skills and analytical abilities
REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:
· Degree in Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Life Science, or related field
· Prior experience in Veterinary clinic or laboratory setting preferred
· MLT's and LVT's are strongly encouraged to apply
· Must provide work references
JOB TYPE: Full-time – 8 hour shifts. Must be available to work evenings and weekends
HOURLY PAY: $23.00 to $28.00 per hour
