Gunnison provides comprehensive cybersecurity support services to the HHS OCIO. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Palo Alto Firewall Engineer to join our IT security team. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of our network infrastructure by managing and maintaining our Palo Alto firewall systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Palo Alto Networks technologies and a strong understanding of network security principles.

Location : Hybrid, Atlanta, GA

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Firewall Management: Configure, deploy, and manage Palo Alto Networks firewalls, ensuring optimal performance and security. Integration with Cisco
• Security Policy Implementation: Develop and implement security policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and organizational requirements.
• Monitoring and Analysis: Monitor firewall performance and security logs to identify and respond to potential threats and vulnerabilities. Routine PAN OS checks
• Incident Response: Participate in security incident response activities, including the investigation, documentation, and remediation of security incidents.
• Network Security Assessments: Conduct regular network security assessments and audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Upgrades and Patching: Manage firewall firmware upgrades and patches to ensure systems are up-to-date and secure.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other IT and security teams to design and implement network security solutions.
• Training and Support: Provide training and support to IT staff and end-users on firewall configurations and best practices.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of firewall configurations, changes, and network diagrams.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and related security technologies.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing Palo Alto Networks firewall appliances.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).
  • Experience with security technologies such as IDS/IPS, VPNs, and endpoint protection.
  • Familiarity with network security best practices and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation tools is a plus.
• Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of security and compliance.
• Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
