Position Overview:
The Quality Control and Safety Coordinator is a critical position that assures the quality of our homes and assists the Project Team in establishing a Safety Culture on all sites and lead Safety awareness. This includes, and is not limited to, site preparation, foundation systems, rough framing, window/door installation, weatherproofing, siding, interior and exterior painting, flooring installation, millwork installation, fence building, and landscaping. This individual is the first point of contact for Site Superintendents to engage and assist on Safety Recommendations for solving field-related construction issues related to a project build. The Quality Control and Safety Coordinator works with the Director of Construction, Site Superintendents, and the Project Manager to build a Safety Culture in the construction department including QC best practices for site staff, volunteers, and external trade partners, ensuring that the design intent is executed in the field.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and update EAP (Emergency Action Plans) for each site
  • Serve on Safety Committee and provide updates to the construction site staff team
  • Ensure all sites have Safety PPE for staff inventory and control
  • Ensure all sites perform Safety Inspections weekly and conduct follow-ups on items that need attention
  • Ensure all sites have Fire Extinguishers and coordinate refills as needed
  • Ensure all sites have Safety 1st Aid Kits and restock regularly
  • In conjunction with HR department team organize 1st aid and CPR certifications for site and office staff
  • Lead Construction OSHA Safety toolbox meetings for the construction department
  • Record OSHA monthly meetings and send to HR quarterly updates of the records
  • Network with Oregon OSHA for future training opportunities
  • Track and Record Safety incidents on site and provide corrections on site
  • Perform QC site inspections
  • Gain and maintain a thorough understanding of permitted construction documents and all construction drawings provided; review construction details for each activity in advance with the Director of Construction; meet Habitat’s quality assurance (QA) standards
  • Maintain QA check sheets to verify that work completed has been inspected prior to proceeding to the next phase/stage of construction
  • Participate in regular construction meetings, organization meetings, and other required events

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Excellent math skills
  • Knowledge of construction Safety guidelines in construction and OSHA construction standards
  • Ability to read and review plans, shop drawings, and field drawings and engage with the Design Team to solve complex building components as well as manage the RFI process
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt to and implement changes easily, and to problem solve
  • Knowledge and understanding of High-Performance building components installation, compatibility, and long-term durability
  • Working knowledge of the current Oregon Residential Specialty Code
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years minimum experience in residential construction, including as a lead carpenter with an emphasis on tract/production of homes and/or apartments
  • OSHA 30 training
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • The office is a fast-paced, business casual environment (currently adjusted due to COVID-19)
  • This employee will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers
  • This position requires local travel in the employee’s personal vehicle
  • This job partially operates at construction sites
  • This position is partially active, requiring standing, walking, bending, and occasionally kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
Schedule
Mon-Fri, 7:30am - 3:30pm, occasional events outside the normal work week
Starting Salary Expectations:
Minimum $22.84/hour to wage range midpoint of $27.82/hour. Placement will generally not exceed the midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full wage range is $22.84/hour to $33.11/hour.
