The Coordinator of Substance Abuse Awareness facilitates a Substance Abuse counseling service program by assessing needs, setting goals and formulating a plan of action in providing services for students. Provide oversight in the implementation of students' programming. Maintains school and student records, and functions as the school's Anti-Bullying Coordinator.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Coordinator of Substance Abuse Awareness at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

1. Identifies appropriate instructional needs and teaching strategies for students at all levels.
2. Evaluates the Eastern Mountain School's compliance with the New Jersey Department of Education's Chemical Health Education Guide.
3. Involves school and community representatives in planning, developing or revising the chemical health curriculum.
4. Identifies and coordinates with appropriate community resources which can supplement the chemical health curriculum.
5. Monitors curriculum implementation and improves chemical health education.
6. Identifies and administers assessment and evaluation instruments to analyze the effectiveness of the chemical education program.
7. Assesses staff development needs and resources and develops a plan to address those needs.
8. Develops strategies to promote the personal and professional growth of all school personnel in the area of chemical health education
9. Coordinates and provides evaluation services for pupils affected by drug or alcohol use, in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code.
10. Coordinates and provides intervention and treatment referral services for pupils affected by drug or alcohol use, in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code.
11. Develops working relationships with school and other drug treatment agencies.
12. Conducts or provides for student awareness, intervention and/or support groups.
13. Manages school-based team intervention activities.
14. Utilizes needs assessments to plan effective strategies for the general student population and special target populations. Develops and manages substance abuse prevention services for students and parents.
15. Identifies applications of various public relations mechanisms to support achievement of substance abuse prevention objectives.
16. Utilizes local, state, and national resource providers to enhance prevention initiatives.
17. Designs management plans for data collection and timely preparation of reports related to substance abuse programs.
18. Identifies current federal and state mandates which may impact policy development.
19. Evaluates district substance abuse policies in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code.
20. Develops a method to review and revise local policies and procedures which includes involving school and community representatives in a continuing planning process.
21. Develops a process to ensure that students, staff and parents remain informed about the district's substance abuse policies and procedures.
22. Functions as the NJDOE Anti-Bullying Coordinator for East Mountain School
23. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
24. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Master's degree in Counseling or a related field
2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a SAC.
3. NJDOE Criminal History Review.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Prior experience working with adolescents.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Valid Driver's License from a USA state.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

1. Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
