We are looking to add new talent to our emerging national geochemical team! We are currently seeking an experienced Project Geochemical Scientist to who want to help grow the Nevada and intermountain region and be an integral part of an emerging geochemical practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical environmental chemistry foundation, analytical skills, and research experience with seeing a project from start to finish with data visual deliverables. Other important qualities include data interpretation and analytical skills, research experience, data visualization expertise, and computer coding capabilities. Candidates will support highly skilled professionals on interesting, technically challenging and diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is a full-time hybrid position with ideal locations near mentors and project-related work in the Boise, ID, Denver, CO, Missoula, MT, Helena, MT, Butte, MT, Reno, NV, Greenville, SC, offices. Will consider other Intermountain-west and Southeastern areas.
Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will:
  • Familiarity with environmental geochemistry and groundwater flow/transport in mining environments.
  • Have a strong vocabulary in chemistry with a broad environmental focus.
  • Big data analytical skills
  • Python coding or classical training in other computer coding
  • Understand analytical laboratory data reports and standard EPA methods.
  • Be a strong researcher to help with litigation research tasks.
  • Work in the field situationally up to 30% as needed collecting environmental samples, document logging cores in situ, mineralogic characterization, redox investigations, environmental tracer investigations, formulation of conceptual site models, drilling oversight, groundwater monitoring well installations, and performing geochemical field investigations of abandoned mine lands, legacy mining sites, and active mining sites.
  • Summarize details, observations, technical procedures and/or project assignment requirements for senior or project personnel.
  • Partner with and support Haley & Aldrich staff members on a wide variety of the geochemical aspects of the projects to address client goals and objectives.
  • Work and schedule resources collaboratively with project teams.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of geochemical field investigation programs, including subsurface explorations and laboratory testing.
  • Compile, reduce, analyze, visualize, manage, and report geochemical data, using data management software and other tools like Power BI.
  • Assist in identifying technical issues and the development design recommendations.
  • Conduct geochemical analyses.
  • Draft written reports, memoranda, daily/weekly field reports and specifications.
  • Contribute to development of proposals and cost estimates to clients.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
  • Comply with the Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior articulated in our Company Charter.
Skills/Experience
  • Minimum M.S. degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or other Geoscience’s degrees will be considered coupled with 3-5 years applicable work experience OR
  • Candidates with a PhD degree will also be considered in lieu of professional work experience.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and MSHA Training preferred.
  • Python or other relevant computer coding experience.
  • Power Bi experience.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to convey observations and produce accurate and concise field notes, logs, data sheets and reports on daily activities including construction projects.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs.
  • Familiarity and interest with geology, mineralogy, environmental remediation and construction is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites and the office, and the ability to travel out of town for temporary work assignments.
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to work with project teams spread across many geographies.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in all MS Office software.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. unassisted.

The salary range for this position in Denver, CO is $70,000 - $90,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to ensure we are competitive in the current market.
