The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Business Management, the Product Manager will develop and lead all commercial strategies for a product line supplied globally as polymer modifiers. This high visibility position will have ultimate ownership of the product line’s financial performance including portfolio management, strategic alliances, pricing programs, and growth strategy. He or she will have full financial responsibility for the product line, driving commercial strategies and leveraging resources to increase sales and maximize profitability. Based in the corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago, customer/supplier visits and industry events will likely require about 20% travel. Responsibilities will include:

  • Full P&L responsibility, drive commercial strategies and leverage resources to increase sales and maximize profitability.
  • Partner with the sales team and interact with key customers to expand the current business and secure new product sales.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with technical, operations, sourcing, regulatory and supply chain to drive growth initiatives.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and technology advancements to recognize emerging customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Develop marketing programs, customer segmentation strategies, and pricing models to optimize business performance.
  • Oversee the development of marketing collateral, product information and communications programs to support sales efforts.
  • Drive the strategic planning process including sales forecasting and commercial development direction to refine the portfolio.
  • Develop and manage relationships with strategic suppliers and partners.

The key to maximizing success will be to maintain an external focus and leverage internal resources to drive commercial programs.

The Requirements

The ideal candidate is a dynamic commercial professional with three years of experience in the chemical industry. Career breadth that includes one or more of the following: technical sales, product management, strategic marketing, product development, supply chain or other customer-focused roles is required. BS Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical degree is also required. Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills are essential.
