JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Marketing & Development Specialist/Sr. Specialist

Reports to: Director of Philanthropy

Classification: Exempt (Administrative Exemption), Salaried

Hours: Full-Time

Hiring Range: $50,000-72,000, depending on education and experience

Work Week: Monday 12:00 AM to Sunday 11:59 PM (AGENCY WORK WEEK FOR PAYROLL)

Location: North Charleston, South Carolina

Organizational Background

HALOS, founded in 1997 and incorporated in 2003, is a growing nonprofit organization that serves grandparents, relatives and family friends who are raising children to keep them with family in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. HALOS meets the needs of kinship families through a variety of supports, programming, and initiatives.

Position Summary

The Marketing and Development Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing HALOS’ marketing, public relations, and advertising strategy; planning, coordinating, and executing special events; and developing and managing HALOS’ volunteer program. This role focuses on attracting new clients, donors, and volunteers. The position may require working on occasional evenings and weekend days with corresponding time off to occur on weekdays when appropriate.

Essential Functions of Position

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

• Become thoroughly familiar with HALOS’ programs and services and communicate them in an engaging manner verbally and in writing

• Develop and execute the marketing and communications plan

• Plan, develop and implement all marketing and communications, including social media, print and digital content, website, email marketing, public relations, newsletters, collateral and advertising

• Collect and analyze data to continually improve quality and effectiveness of marketing initiatives, including Google Analytics

• Create written, digital and video promotional and advertising materials with brand fidelity, including designing and developing collateral materials for both Program and Fundraising Departments using Canva and PowerPoint

• Maintain and develop HALOS website using WIX

• Manage social media including content creation, scheduling, commenting and direct messaging, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube

• Conduct media relations activities including writing press releases and media alerts, and securing and coordinating media interviews

• Draft content, design and layout of regular donor and client email communications

• Produce quarterly client and donor newsletter content, design and layout

• Draft monthly donor acknowledgement letters and bi-annual appeal letters

• Design programmatic mailings to clients

• Secure and manage Google Ad grant

• Coordinate PSA spots on radio and television

• Represent HALOS with media and at public functions in a polished and professional manner

SPECIAL EVENTS

• Take primary responsibility for all aspects of organizing, planning and executing annual fundraising event(s), including securing vendors and maintaining detailed, accurate budgets

• Recruit and work cooperatively with volunteers to support fundraising special events

• Identify and coordinate with outside organizations and/or individuals to host third party event fundraisers

• Develop strategies and implement a plan to transition attendees and supporters of fundraising events into on-going donors

• Assist with accurate and thorough gift entry and recording, reporting and acknowledgement process.

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT

• Plan and execute donation drives for summer camp scholarships, school supplies and holiday gifts, including recruiting and communicating with partner network volunteers and donors

• Assess organizational needs for volunteers and develop a robust volunteer program to meet those needs

• Recruit, coordinate and manage volunteer teams for office projects, program support, special events, and community outreach efforts

• Oversee volunteer recruiting efforts including applications, interviews, orientation and training

• Work with Institutional Giving Manager to identify opportunities to recruit institutional employees and members as volunteers

• Process, organize and maintain volunteer paperwork, including application, tracking of volunteer hours and creating reports

• Maintain the volunteer database and work to integrate it with donor database.

• Facilitate good communication with and between volunteers

• Coordinate and plan donor/volunteer cultivation and recognition events/activities

• Coordinate with the Director of Philanthropy to identify and build relationships with volunteers who are mid- or major-gift level donor prospects and entities

DONOR DATABASE

• Act as Raiser’s Edge Administrator, including gift entry and processing, acknowledgment letters, reports and mailing lists, and pledge reminders

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university or college OR a 2-year degree with a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience

• Proven track record (3 years) demonstrated experience managing marketing and communications to advance an organization's mission and goals

• Exceptional writing, editing and story-telling skills

Desirable Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools and Canva

• Experience with Raiser’s Edge, video editing, and WIX

• Knowledge of and/or lived experience with kinship care, foster care, and general child welfare systems
