Hamilton County Department Of Education is Hiring a Dispatcher Near Chattanooga, TN

The purpose of this job is to dispatch buses to ensure on-time performance of service within an assigned geographical area and provide superior customer service to drivers, monitors, school admin, and parents.
Responsibilities
  • Dispatches routes for maximum efficiency and safety; maintains computer data pertaining to student addresses bus stops, current routes, available buses/drivers, and related data; reviews new roads and new subdivision plats for incorporation into bus routing.
  • Acts in a professional, respectful and welcoming manner at all times.
  • Creates a customer focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
  • Complies with applicable district, state and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standers, policies and procedures.
  • Performs customer service functions associated with school bus transportation services; provides information to parents, school personnel, and citizens regarding school zones, bus routes, bus stop locations, bus schedules, or other aspects of student transportation; responds to questions and complaints; researches problems and initiates problem resolution.
  • Provides drivers with information concerning bus routes, bus stops, arrival/departure times, specific route instructions, and local maps; prepares maps for drivers.
  • Notifies schools of late bus arrivals.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, bus route sheets, route directions, maps, bus stop request forms, driver information sheets, complaint forms, or other documents. Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, computerized routing, or other programs; performs basic maintenance of computer system and office equipment, such as backing up data or replacing paper, ink, or toner; coordinates service/repair activities as needed.
  • Communicates with supervisor, employees, drivers, dispatchers, other departments, school officials, students, parents, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Takes all scheduling and driver, parent complaints, report to routing specialist and transportation
  • Admin or resolve problems directly with the reporting party.
  • Logs all calls on a Google call log. Manages the spreadsheet to ensure any needed follow-up is addressed and documented.
  • Handles heavy phone and radio traffic with professionalisms. Serves as primary communication liaison with incoming calls. Perform miscellaneous clerical duties while buses are on routes.
  • Provides solutions to drop-off and pick-up problems; resolve issues as needed.
  • Making quick decisions to ensure routes are covered and run on-time. Making judgement calls to ensure safety.
  • Uses computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Education/Experience Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving school transportation coordination, fast pace radio dispatching, computerized trip routing, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with students, parents, school personnel, community and court systems.
  • Demonstrates excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment when confronted with angry, emotional students, parents, or custodial parents.
