Job Title: Building Inspector 2

We serve the residents of Hamilton County in more ways than you may realize. Summary of Job Duties:
  • Inspects commercial construction and renovation and performs on-site inspections of construction and structure building activities.
  • Identifies violations and issues citations.
  • Prepares reports reflecting inspection results, problems encountered and other relevant information.
  • Maintains files reflecting data regarding building and complaints.
  • Responds to and attempts to resolve citizen questions and complaints.
  • Consults with owners and contractors to discuss violations and provide technical advice regarding complying with code regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5 years experience as a construction contractor or supervisor for buildings or structures
  • or 10 years experience as a skilled trades person from work subject to inspection under a model building code
  • 1 year vocational or technical education may be substituted for one [1] year of experience and 2 years college level coursework, or equivalent
  • Demonstration of a thorough knowledge of Ohio Building or Model Building Code of a national model code organization, County building codes, construction methods and materials
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial construction and residential plans and inspection techniques
  • Basic knowledge of public relations and computer applications/systems
  • valid driver’s license issued by the state of residency
  • Must possess a Building Inspector and a Residential Building Official or Residential Building Inspector certification of competency as issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards
  • In lieu of possession of Building Inspector and a Residential Building Official or Residential Building Inspector certificates, upon hiring, incumbents in this classification must sign an agreement to obtain these certificates within two years of employment.
Work Location and Hours:
  • 138 East Court St. Cincinnati, Oh. 45202
  • 40 Hour Work Week, generally between core hours of 7:30-5:30
