Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work or related field and 2 years of management experience and a minimum of 3 - 4 years of Juvenile Probation experience.
  • Must possess auto liability insurance.
  • Must be age 21 or older.
  • Must pass extensive background screening process.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree and more than 5 years of work related experience preferred.

Special Working Conditions and/or Hazards:
  • Employees work indoors and are protected from weather conditions or contaminants, but not necessarily occasional temperature changes.
Job Duties:
  • Provides oversight and supervision of the department's Probation Teams.
  • Ensures that supervision meetings occur at least on a monthly basis with each staff member as well as participates in impromptu conferencing as needed.
  • Provides oversight of data entry into all internal and external databases utilized by department staff to ensure quality as well as adherence to security and data integrity.
  • Conducts formal and informal performance appraisals and develops goals to aid in the professional development of assigned staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of various department position responsibilities and functions in order to aid in new employee training as well as ongoing development of all assigned staff.
  • Participates in the interview and selection process of candidates for Probation Department positions.
  • Assists in the facilitation of the daily operation of the department through participation in the planning and development of department functions, projects, programming and formulation of contracts in conjunction with the Chief Probation Officer.
  • Monitors contracted services for quantity and quality, as well as other contract compliance issues.
  • Monitors departmental operations for adherence to department and Court policies and procedures related to case management, officer safety, personnel practices, IV-E, RECLAIM requirements, etc., in order to reduce risk of liability and maintain a professional work environment.
  • Prepares the department for audits and handles all related issues.
  • Facilitates, attends and participates in meetings with representatives of other Court and County departments, community groups and service providers in order to further the development of working relationships, procedures and case specific planning.
  • Assists the Chief Probation Officer in the facilitation of monthly department meetings for the purpose of keeping staff updated on information and events within the department and Court as well as providing a forum for staff to address concerns.
  • All other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, providing customer service support and/or direct care monitoring of youth in various court departments and buildings on a temporary, as-needed and/or rotation basis.

  • Must possess analytical skills/abilities, which include: Ability to assess a situation, provide multiple perspectives, gather further information/perspectives if necessary to arrive at an appropriate response. Assess information from Management information system for use in reporting outcomes as well as planning for the department. Ability to assess processes in place and modify to increase efficiency.
  • Must possess clerical/administrative skills/abilities, which include: Ability to operate office equipment, strong organizational and prioritizing skills.
  • Must possess computer/technical skills/abilities, which include: Ability to use basic computer software such as Microsoft Office and GroupWise. Ability to operate Court's information management system to access reports and input data.
  • Must possess project/process management skills/abilities, which include: Ability to lead/facilitate assigned projects within required timelines, delegating when appropriate, keeping process moving and keeping participants motivated.
  • Must possess written and oral communication skills/abilities, which include: Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences in a professional manner, showing respect for the audience and appropriately representing the Court's interests.
