Job description

Immediate opening for a full time Medical Assistant to work Monday through Friday in a busy medical office setting.

Summary

Perform clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, managing faxes and paperwork, managing incoming and outgoing referrals, scheduling follow up visits, and calling patients to answer questions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in electronic medical records.
  • Prepare and administer injections and medications as directed by a physician.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Schedule appointments for patients.
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.
  • Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.
  • Log into local facilities electronic medical records system to secure patient information on in patient admissions and import this data to physician’s electronic medical records system

Education and Experience

· Required: High School Diploma

Knowledge:

· Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, managing files and records, scanning files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.

· English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

· Computers and Electronics – Must be VERY comfortable with computers and be proficient with electronic medical records programs and be experienced in Outlook Email, Word, and Excel.

  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
