The primary role of an Apprentice Glassblower & Charger is to learn the craft of glassmaking daily and assist the hot glass team with successful glass production, including both processes of blown and cast glass. This position also includes lighting up the shop in the morning and filling furnaces throughout the day as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Learn the basic skills in the craft of hot glass blowing and casting.
• Learn from experienced glassmakers through assisting them to carry out their daily production efficiently and productively.
• Learn quality standards to identify defects and formulate solutions to issues.
• Learn the value of timing in glass production.
• Operate torches, wood and metal moulds.
• Learn to gather and ladle hot glass.
• Ensure moulds and tools are continuously prepared for your team.
• Load finished glass pieces into annealing ovens.
• It takes time and repetition to learn the craft of glassmaking, patience is necessary.
• Being on-time and a team player is a must.
• Ensure timely charging of hot glass furnaces.
• Punctually turning on all hot glass equipment in the morning.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Active team experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This position works primarily in a Hot Shop which includes high levels of heat and working closely around flames and furnaces.
• This position requires the ability to continually bend, stoop, stand, sit, bend wrists, physically blow air out of the mouth, lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly, and climb steps.
