The Electrical/Mechanical Design Engineer position is responsible for the R&D of new materials and technology and development of new products. This position requires identifying, vetting, and collaborating with overseas third party manufactures to create components that are not able to be manufactured in our facility. This position is also responsible for project management and documentation of all work including reporting out on key objectives and keeping a full design history file.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

• Work with regulatory agencies (UL/ELT) to test and approve new components and products.
• Manage a design history file on all projects though all phases of the development cycle.
• Manage projects by developing and tracking timelines, presenting on project status, and managing internal and external resources when necessary.
• Develop new lighting fixtures and manage products through all phases of the product development cycle.
• Create and update manufacturing drawings, product specifications, and install instructions using Solidworks.
• Design and implement tools, jigs, and processes to support new product production though various manufacturing departments including fabrication, powder coating, hot and cold glass, and finish assembly.
• Perform R&D on new electrical circuits and components including LEDs, LED drivers, and electrical accessories.
• Manage third party manufactures to develop intelligent lighting components and systems which may include lighting control though IOT, Home Automation systems, and sensor integration.
• Perform validation testing on new components and systems including full documentation of testing protocols and reports.

• Find, vet, and manage overseas manufactures of lighting components.
• Communicate with third party manufactures during non-typical hours in order to communicate technical information to overseas vendors in a timely manner.
• Research new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods for use in manufacturing and lighting projects.
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar field required
• 1-3 yrs Solidworks experience required
• 1-3 yrs product design experience required
• Proven experience with electrical system design and implementation

Working Conditions

• Approximately 90% desk/computer work.
• Must be capable of working in a metal shop environment.
• Moving about the building is a regular requirement to consult with sales and production teams.
