Job Summary

The Automotive Service Technician functions as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnostics and repairs in all areas. \

Supervisory Responsibilities

• None

Essential Functions

• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
• Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts
• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
• Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
• Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
• Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order
• Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician
• Inspects and test drives newly delivered vehicles for obvious damage and missing major components and drivability functions
• Installs optional equipment specified by the customer or dealer
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
• Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean
• Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals; returning to proper place
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner; reports safety issues immediately
• Performs other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Automotive technical training or equivalent experience
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
• Ability to operate tools and equipment used in automotive repair
• Ability to communicate effectively with service advisors and customers
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and quality of work
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screen (background & hair follicle drug test)

 Desired Attributes:

• ASE Certification

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. regularly.
• Must be able to inspect vehicle to determine repairs needed.
• Good vision to inspect repair work.
• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
