Hanover College is Hiring a Laboratory Technician Near Hanover, IN

Hanover College invites applications for the position of Laboratory Technician. This 10-month (mid-August through mid-June) part-time, hourly (average 20 hrs/week) position is responsible for preparing introductory Biology and Chemistry lab courses, maintaining the chemical inventory, serving as Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO), and providing occasional lab support to other programs in the Division of Natural Sciences. Working hours must align with the needs of the lab schedule, which can vary from term to term.

Essential Duties

  • Prepare all 100-level laboratories for introductory Biology and Chemistry courses
  • Maintain chemical inventory and stock supplies
  • Serve as Chemical Hygiene Officer (chemical hygiene certification required)
  • Provide occasional "as needed" lab support for other science departments
  • Hire, train, and supervise student workers in the lab prep area
  • Assist when necessary in the care of live specimens for the Biology, KIP, and Psychology Departments
  • Meet and report, as needed, with the Director of Environmental Health and Safety
  • Collaborate with Biology and Chemistry faculty to ensure proper laboratory preparations
  • Maintain lab cleanliness
  • Maintain and monitor laboratory safety equipment (e.g., eyewash and safety shower stations)
  • Test, service, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in the sciences
  • Working knowledge of and experience with laboratory equipment
  • Chemical solution preparation skills
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups (faculty, staff, and students)
