HAPCO is Hiring a Pole Mfg. Tech IV Sander (3rd weekend) Near Abingdon, VA

SUMMARY: The sanding operator shall examine poles for excessive bushing marks, deep gouges or excessive wheel rings, review all drawings that pertain to sanding. Utilize proper gauges, bushings, sanding belts, drawings and processes. Ensure that all specifications are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operator is responsible for all machine operations and production requirements.
  • The operator shall thoroughly review all drawings, which pertain to tubes to be

in the sanding process.

  • The operator shall verify if the operation of the pole requires final satin ground using 50 grit belt, powder coating using 80 grit belt, and to knowledgeably know the difference in operations of the sanding process.

All poles shall be inspected for scratches/dents. If poles are scratched and/or have large dents the supervisor shall be contacted. With supervisor’s approval the prescribed settings may be changed for severely dented or scratched poles.

  • The operator will also be responsible for the machine set up which includes

using the correct equipment for chuck, tailstock, bushings, steady rest wheels, chuck key and wrenches.

  • The operator is responsible for applying the correct amount of soluble oil/water mixture to poles (example: satin poles require a 20 to 1 mixture of water and soluble oil).
  • The operator will work from prints and standard operating instructions. Use gages and various other measuring instruments, and maintain specified dimensions and tolerances by checking parts according to prescribed inspection instructions.
  • The operator must have knowledge of production machine tool operations and ordinary setup functions and mandatory use equipment. The employee shall use the overhead bridge crane for lifting of product or contact supervisor if any issue arises out of the normal duties in reference to heavy lifting.
  • All sanders operators shall observe all safety precautions and wear prescribed safety equipment, maintain a safe work environment, perform all maintenance/cleaning functions within safety standards and according to published procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and continually prioritize tasks to be completed throughout the shift
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; and a combination of high school and/or technical/trade school or combination of education and experience in the field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving machining equipment, moving mechanical parts, dirt, oil, grease, metal shavings, and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud with potential exposures ranging from 80db to more than 100 db at certain times. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) will be worn as mandated in the mfg. environment. Specific safety equipment will always be used while operating equipment or performing tasks as outlined, if mandatory for this position.
