Amgen is seeking a dedicated Process Development Senior Principal Scientist with industry experience in peptide synthesis and manufacturing to join our Drug Substance Technologies - Synthetics (DSTS) group in Cambridge, MA. Amgens DSTS group within Process Development (PD) is responsible for the invention, development, and implementation of drug substance manufacturing processes and technologies to advance Amgen's portfolio of synthetic and hybrid assets. The Senior Principal Scientist role will include leading a multidisciplinary team of chemists and chemical engineers in the development of efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes for peptide synthesis and purification, driving technology innovation in the areas of chemical and microbial recombinant peptide production technologies, and providing technical expertise as well as developing and mentoring staff within the organization. The successful candidate for this role will be a people-centered leader with expertise in peptide process development and manufacturing with a consistent track record of scientific innovation and leadership within the pharmaceutical industry.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Lead a multidisciplinary project team in the development of sustainable and cost-effective processes for peptide manufacturing
Drive technology innovation in the areas of chemical and microbial recombinant peptide production technologies
Support cGMP manufacturing and technology transfer to large-scale peptide production facilities
Develop strategies to ensure process performance through process understanding, modeling and characterization
Guide successful completion of project deliverables and ensure timelines are met
Work multi-functionally to deliver regulatory documents and support regulatory filings
Serve as a technical expert and keep current in the field of peptide synthesis and manufacturing
Coach and provide career and scientific / technical advice to colleagues within the organization

**Basic Qualifications:**
Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biochemistry/Chemical Biology and 3 years of industry experience
**Or**
Masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biochemistry/Chemical Biology and 6 years of industry experience
**Or**
Bachelors degree n Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biochemistry/Chemical Biology and 6 years of industry experience
**Preferred Qualifications:**
6 years in the pharmaceutical industry with expertise in peptide process development and manufacturing (solid-phase peptide synthesis, liquid-phase peptide synthesis, site-selective peptide modification, semisynthetic approaches, chemoenzymatic peptide synthesis)
Ability to work within a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment to achieve results
People-centered leadership skills in building strong teams through mutual trust and respect and exhibits Amgen leadership attributes of inspire, accelerate, integrate, and adapt
Track record of publications, patents and presentations

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
