Harlem Children's Zone is Hiring a Director, College Success Office Near New York, NY

Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Director to join the College Success Office.
The Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are currently seeking a Director to lead the College Success and Education and Innovation Teams. The ideal candidate will be experienced in departmental leadership, cultivating relationships, and have a myriad of experiences within higher education.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related social services field preferred, Bachelor's Degree Required.
  • At least five years of experience in student affairs, college admissions, college counseling, student advising, and data-driven methods to increase student admission to and matriculation into college

  • Knowledge of admissions and enrollment policies, alternative programs/vocational studies
  • Knowledge of higher education, financial aid, and postsecondary education
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the program including evening, and some weekends
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently
  • Comfortable working in various urban settings and with diverse populations
  • Proactive and anticipatory thinking and planning skills
  • Prior experience with youth and young adults of diverse cultural backgrounds is a plus
What You'll Do
  • Provide direct supervision to Assistant Director, Provide leadership and guidance to Lead Counselors, Education and Innovation Specialists and a team of 25 College Counselors
  • Ensure students have regular and substantive guidance and contact with College Counselors
  • Collaborate with Data Manager and Evaluation Department on key systems and processes for data management and reporting on student engagement, persistence, retention, enrollment, credit accumulation, and graduation
  • Provide quarterly updates on cohort persistence strategies
  • Ensure a strong culture of accountability, standards, and best practices in all areas of the College Success Program
  • Ensure staff are up to date on trends in education including but not limited to: constructive behavior, perseverance, growth mindset, social skills, communication, participant engagement, and learning strategies for current college students and participants who are not in school
  • Remain abreast of trends in higher education, college access, college admissions, vocational and certification programs
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with HCZ colleagues, and serve as a liaison to external community organizations, higher education institutions, and other stakeholders
  • Partner with CSO Readiness Director to cultivate relationships with colleges and universities to develop admission processes specific to our population and implement sustainable options for CSO scholars.
  • Partner with CSO Career Director to provide information on participants to create pathways for all populations towards Career Success
  • Work with Data Team to track trends in college admission, retention, enrollment and graduation success rates
  • Perform other duties as assigned
