Job Description

The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they graduate from college through a variety of after-school, Saturday, and summer educational and youth development programs.

Position Description:

HEAF is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and academically focused Director of Curriculum Design & Learning to help build HEAF’s instruction, curriculum, and learning along with the Program team. The Director of Curriculum Design & Learning will be the first person to greet and support our incoming 8th graders and ensure that all instructors are ready to be successful in the classroom. Responsibilities include but are not limited to connecting with the 8th-grade students and their families, hiring and training part-time instructors, and managing part-time curriculum writers This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Programs and work closely with all program team members.

Job Type: Full-Time, Hybrid

Schedule:

The staff schedule is set based on the annual programming calendar. The standard schedule is Monday-Friday but must be able to work Saturdays and some evenings as dictated by programming needs.

Academic Year (Hybrid 2-3 days in office) Monday- Friday 11:00 am-7:00 pm

Summer (July & August): Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Curriculum & Instruction Management:

  • Build a comprehensive instructional onboarding and training process.

  • Hire, onboard, and train part-time instructors and curriculum writers to align with program needs each semester.

  • Support the creation of the part-time instructor and curriculum writer budget. Ensure we are staying within budget.

  • Assist with the collection of biweekly timesheets and Clockify entries from instructors and staff.

  • Collaborate with the Chief Programs Officer to ensure that the curriculum is engaging and impactful.

Program Management:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of all HEAF programming including Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters.

  • Foster meaningful relationships with students and caregivers. Correspond with caregivers and students via email and phone regarding attendance, student engagement, academics, and upcoming events and opportunities.

  • Create and nurture a student culture that promotes a positive peer community, and a college-going culture.

  • In collaboration with other departments, oversee the planning of events such as college tours, career days, school tours, graduations, etc.

  • Coordinate workshops, seminars, and programming to support the high school application process.

  • Facilitate training opportunities for parents and students based on the community’s needs.

  • Collaborate with program directors to create processes and procedures to ensure all programming runs smoothly and efficiently.

  • Actively participate in weekly meetings with staff, and contribute to long-term and vision planning.

  • Collaborate with the Director of 9-11th grade to sSupport the transition of 8th grade students to high school.

Recruitment & Admissions Support:

  • Represent HEAF and support admissions. Connect with school-based personnel to ensure that all school and HEAF goals and objectives are aligned and met.

  • Support the transition of new 8th-grade students into the HEAF community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, and at least 4 years of post-grad experience required.

  • Experience with instructional coaching and curriculum development.

  • Previous supervision experience of full-time, part-time, and/or intern staff.

  • Commitment to HEAF’s mission and supporting students through their middle, high school, and college journey.

  • Experience with managing multiple projects at the same time and prioritizing tasks.

  • Outstanding collaborative skills and organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal, written, and computer skills are essential. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
