About the Role

The Senior Principal Product Value Analytics Engineer is responsible to define and execute the product value analytics strategy across HARMAN Automotive division considering all regions, business units, and customers.

This role will create "competitive advantages " by elevating Harman's current direct material-focused initiatives to:

  • Total value analytics approach with coverage on
    • Functionality
    • Material,
    • Licenses
    • Process
    • Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
    • Carbon footprint
  • Automotive product portfolio of high technology products which drives around $1B to $2B in annual material spend at Harman.

This role will be responsible for improving overall profitability, sustainability, and growth of the division by:

  • Developing and implementing advanced product analytics methodologies and frameworks
  • Challenging the status quo, pushing for data-driven decision-making and innovation
  • Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, customer preferences, and emerging technologies
  • Ensure operational excellence of HARMAN Automotive's product analytics

The role is responsible for optimizing an annual spend of $1000M and expected to deliver $150M EBIT improvement over multiple years to enable divisional-level profitability, sustainability, and growth goals.

Your Team

This position will report to the Product Value Analytics & Benchmarking lead and will be an individual contributor role with no direct or indirect reports.
What You Will Do

  • Define and lead the development of product value models supported by reliable and validated internal/external data
  • Define and drive the HARMAN "best practice" product value reference including BOM, BOL, BOP, COPQ, and Carbon for all the Harman Automotive products across all SBUs
  • Build the product value models for advanced technology products such as:
    • Digital Cockpit
    • Connectivity modules
    • Advanced driver assistance systems(ADAS)
  • Develop, align, and execute a divisional-wide strategy to assemble and enable highly effective cross-functional teams (including Procurement/Engineering/Manufacturing/Account Management) which creates overarching profitability, and sustainability strategies and deliver both commercial & technical measures.
  • Contribute and Co-Leadership with VM teams during the ideation phase to establish reference improvement targets supported by analytical product models
  • Develop close internal collaboration with advanced sourcing engineering and external technical relationships with suppliers to identify best value solutions, including emerging technologies that provide value, CO2e improvements
  • Analyze competitor product benchmark reports/results and analyze best cost engineering results to establish comprehensive product value assessment
  • Lead and drive the technical definition and implementation of product value modeling solutions, including the identification of analytics that enable trend and sensitivity data to be established.
  • Develop and enhance the internal Harman product analysis database
  • Creating professional reliable product value analytics modeling in-house tools and validating 3rd party tools, databases

What You Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Product Value Analysis/ Cost Engineering / Value Management / Procurement or Manufacturing / Engineering preferably in the Automotive industry
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience working with electrical systems or devices such as Digital Cockpit, Connectivity ADAS, Audio systems & Amplifiers
  • Minimum 10 years of experience and ability to lead diverse global teams to improve profitability, CO2e growth, innovation, and time-to-market commitments
  • Proven technical leadership with demonstrated ability to lead and review cost engineering analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in technology benchmarking of new and emerging technologies.
  • A proven track record of outstanding engaging skills in diverse, cross-functional teams including executive stakeholders to embrace continuous improvement in a highly competitive environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with strategic thinking and a track record of driving change orientations
  • Exceptional engaging skills in diverse, cross-functional teams including Procurement & Engineering leadership to embrace continuous improvement in a highly competitive environment.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.

What is Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in engineering or MBA
  • Commercial basics in Procurement, controlling, and accounting
