POSITION SUMMARY:

This position, in collaboration with other stakeholders develops and implements a rigorous technology education program and provides co curricular educational services for students. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate from an accredited college or university in an approved program of study.
  2. Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Technology Education.
  3. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and learning in a project-based environment.
  4. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with all stakeholders and staff. This includes the ability to communicate with diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  5. Ability to guide 6th-8th grade students through complex problems using the Engineering Design Process.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  7. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  8. Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks.
  9. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  10. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  12. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  13. Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
  14. Experience operating and teaching with portable power tools, stationary power tools, 3D printers, laser cutter and other program appropriate equipment while maintaining a safe learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Knowledge of technology education curriculum to facilitate project-based learning. 
  2. Builds a classroom culture in which students learn technology education through project-based, hands-on, and experiential means.
  3. Prepares students to think critically and take ownership of their advancement in technology education.
  4. Support students in co curricular activities related to technology education (such as TSA).
  5. Develops strong relationships with local technology education-focused businesses for student mentorship and partnership opportunities.
  6. Prepares students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a state-approved list in each course.
  7. Designs engaging lessons that inspire students to do their best work in an inquiry-based or project-based instructional framework.
  8. Follows all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  9. Maintains the technology education lab and equipment and coordinates with building and central office administration when repairs or replacements are necessary. 
  10. Follows VDOE and industry best practices for lab spaces, safety and equipment.
  11. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  12. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  13. Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  14. Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
  15. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  16. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and the school community. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative or licensed personnel.
