Job Summary:

This individual is responsible for overseeing the development of simulation/CESI related programs, simulation based scenarios, and simulation or education based curriculum in CESI. Will work collaboratively with CESI simulation instructors, CESI simulation technician and the CESI medical director as well as internal and external customers to ensure consistency, continuity and cost-effectiveness across the continuum. The educational programs will provide an optimal learning experience that promotes high standards of clinical care, advocating patient safety, teamwork, and professional practice.

Responsible for training and education in CESI programs such as cardiac related topics, airway management, BLS and ACLS classes to ensure individual practitioner competence and program compliance with accreditation standards. Reports directly to the Director of CESI Operation

Job Responsibilities:

1. Promotes professional and academic advancement such as: assists to develop Balance Scorecard goals and objectives, maintains current knowledge in the fields of education and simulation, and keeps up on simulation literature, studies, and cutting edge advancements through the use of the Health Sciences Library and their research services. Participates in simulation based research and collaborates with other Simulation Educators/Coordinators by joining related associations, attending simulation conferences and by taking relevant training courses.

2. The Education Specialist will provide instruction of simulation programs within scope of

medical knowledge. He/she will:

a) Have a detailed understanding of the learning objectives for the specific course for which he/she instructs.

b) Lead debriefing discussion at the end of simulation scenarios. He/she must provide a supportive climate and positive learning environment where students feel valued, respected, and free to learn in a dignified environment.

c) Will determine learners who are having difficulty with subject matter and assist as necessary providing feedback to the learner or the course director.

d) Assist with collecting reliable data for evaluating learners' performances through: observational ratings of learner performance (anecdotal notes, customized notations) and through formal assessment instruments (i.e. checklists).

3. Duties include but not limited to:

a) Setting up and taking down of computers, all simulators, including screen-based simulation programs, procedural task training models, virtual reality simulators and full body computerized manikins, clinical and teaching equipment, and complex audio-visual system.

b) Provides and implements solutions to enhance the delivery of simulation based education through technological developments and creation of artifacts, such as moulage, props, and wardrobe.

c) Troubleshoots clinical simulation technologies associated audio visual equipment so that training courses run smoothly.

d) Demonstrate the operation of equipment within the center to others and maintains competence with the equipment.

e) Maintaining and resupplying inventory and equipment as necessary

f) Scheduling, organizing and maintaining the simulation space

g) Performing other project support as needed to support daily simulation center activities.

h) Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials requested for the operation of CESI.

i) Supports CESI in all areas; including community outreach programs; (example: National Guard and Boy Scouts) including conducting tours of the facility.

j) Maintains the CESI as a clean, safe, and optimal learning environment

k) Accountable for own advancement (formal or informal) for continuous personal-professional growth in field.

l) Able to provide education (in your areas of expertise) at team meetings to peer group.

3. This person interacts with faculty, staff, students and the public on a continuing and regular basis as a representative of CESI.

4. Trains internal and external customers in patient management such cardiac arrhythmias, airway management.

5. Is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and supporting all educational and research activities in the center. He or she is also responsible for providing expertise in the operation, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for all simulation equipment and audio visual equipment.

6. Responsible for inventory management and will notify CESI Administrative Assistant should supplies need to be ordered.

7. Provides and implements solutions to enhance the delivery of simulation based education through technological developments and creation of artifacts, such as moulage, props and wardrobe.

8. Maintains thorough knowledge of each program and remains current in changes to requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in healthcare RN preferred. Master's degree in education preferred (or matriculation)
  • Minimum of five years experience in healthcare associated or related environment
  • BLS Provider certification
  • ACLS Provider certification
  • Must read, write, speak English proficiently
