Logistics & Work Environment:

This full-time position at our Midlands (Columbia) Branch involves extended desk work, frequent computer use, and occasional day-time travel. Vision abilities are essential.

Mobility and awareness of environmental hazards are required due to warehouse conditions.

The hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, totaling 37.5 hours per week.

A Day in the Life:

Under the direction of the Grants and Proposals Manager, the Grants Specialist will support staff in securing and managing corporate, foundation, and government grants. Responsibilities include identifying and writing grant proposals that reflect institutional priorities, researching and sharing grant opportunities, and managing a detailed calendar of applications, performance benchmarks, and reports.

Works independently to research, identify, and maintain database of external opportunities that present viable funding potential and that match HHFB goals and priorities.

  • Plans and coordinates development and submission of proposals.
  • Writes letters of inquiry and cover letters for grants.
  • Writes or edits and reviews grant proposals.
  • Plans meetings and site visits with program officers, communicates calendars well in advance.
  • Develops training materials specific for each grant and provides support for cross-departmental training for all staff involved in grant execution.
  • Serves as HHFB subject area expert on private and corporate foundation staff and boards.
  • Independently monitors and reports regularly to appropriate internal and external offices the status of assigned grants.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments collect data for grant development.
  • Works with philanthropy team to identify and plan solicitations of local private family foundations.
  • Develops budgets and budget narratives for proposals.
  • Independently performs a variety of unscheduled duties normally and traditionally performed by a Grants Specialist.

To Qualify for this Position, you must have:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Grant proposal formats, preparation, submission, and administration
  • Federal, state, and private granting agency regulations
  • Search tools for identifying new grant opportunities.
  • Research and computer use skills.
  • Budgetary and fiscal processes

ABILITY TO:

  • Demonstrate diligence and a commitment to excellence in the performance of all duties.
  • Plan and organize a variety of work with varying deadlines.
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Coordinate multiple projects.
  • Operate personal computer systems, software, and automated systems.
  • Demonstrate effective decision-making skills.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

  • Three years or more related experience in grant writing or development.
  • Requires excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Must be able to clearly articulate HHFB’s mission.
