Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is Hiring an Audio-Visual Technician I, II, III - McKinley High Near Honolulu, HI

Description

The authorized level of the position is Audio Visual Tech III. Applications are being accepted down to the Audio Visual Tech I in the event of recruiting difficulties.
Salary Range: Compensation adjustments shall be made in accordance with the applicable established collective bargaining agreement, policy and procedure, or executive order.

Who May Apply: Any Civil Service member of the Hawaii State Department of Education or a Conversion Public Charter School who has demonstrated satisfactory performance in his/her position and whose membership is active at the time of referral and movement may apply.

Examples of Duties

1. Operates all equipment and controls.
2. Performs preventive maintenance work which includes changing weak tubes, lubricating, cleaning and replacing or adjusting recording heads.
3. Does repair work which involves the utilization of electrical testing devices including the diagnostic use of the oscilloscope and signal generator.
4. Makes modifications such as installing new mounts for projection equipment, installing T.V. tuners and amplifiers into the system, and installing remote control devices.
5. Explains technical use of facilities, equipment and controls to faculty, staff and/or others.
6. Records closed-circuit television programs.
7. Checks quality of television playbacks.
8. Trains student help and oversees the work in the operation of equipment.
9. Arranges for operators for evening and weekend use of equipment.
10. Maintains records.
11. Requisitions supplies and maintains an adequate level of supplies.
12. May assist in the selection of new equipment.
13. May supervise lower level technicians.

Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible experience operating and maintaining one or more types of audio-visual sound and projection equipment, such as film projection equipment and sound systems, television tape recorders, cameras and monitors, disc and tape reorders, record players, and amplifying systems. For certain positions at the II and III levels, experience must have included making mechanical and electronic repairs to television equipment.
  • Supervisory Experience: For the Audio-Visual Technician III position, this requirement may be met by demonstration of supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory and administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills to work assignments or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Quality of Experience
: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Substitutions Allowed
:

1. Possession of a certificate indicating completion of coursework or training in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment at an accredited school, in the military or a similar training institution may be substituted for three months of experience operating and maintaining audio-visual equipment.

2. Completion of a course of study with a minimum of one academic year in electronics at an accredited technical school for which a certificate or diploma was given may be substituted for experience operating and maintaining audio-visual equipment and making mechanical and electronic repairs to television equipment on a year-for-year basis.
3. Satisfactory completion of coursework at an accredited college or university with specialization in physics, mathematics, engineering or related sciences which included courses in physics and electrical sciences and at least two courses in electronics, one of which was a laboratory course, may be substituted for experience operating and maintaining audio-visual equipment and making mechanical and electronic repairs to television equipment on a year-for-year basis.

Lifting Requirements
: Applicants must lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and lift/carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).

Tests
: Applicants may be required to qualify on an appropriate examination.

Supplemental Information

Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.
Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below:

  • A copy of the applicant’s TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report;
  • A signed letter from the applicant’s supervisor that includes the applicant’s name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked; or,
  • Copies of the applicant’s signed SF-10 Forms.
