Hawai`i State Judiciary is Hiring a Juvenile Detention Training Program Specialist (DL) - Kapolei, O`ahu Near Kapolei, HI

Recruitment Number 24-093TY, Juvenile Detention Training Program Specialist, SR-22*, Kapolei, O`ahu.*Salary rate effective July 1, 2024.
Note: This position requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.The position functions as a trainer responsible for conducting and coordinating training courses and activities for Juvenile Detention Workers (JDW), Juvenile Detention Officers (JDO), Juvenile Detention Supervisors (JDS), and Juvenile Counselors (JC). 

Educational RequirementBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.Progressively responsible experience in administrative, professional, technical analytical, supervisory or other responsible work which demonstrated a high degree of analytical skill and the ability to organize work effectively, solve problems, write reports, speak effectively, and deal effectively with people may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Specialized Experience: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in one or a combination of the areas described below:1) Providing formal classroom instruction gained as a teacher in a school system, or an instructor at the college/university level, which included the development of lesson or individual instructional plans;2) Conducting management and/or employee educational development programs as a professional instructor; and/or3) Conducting instructional related and counseling-type tasks in a detention or institutional setting. Such experience must include responsibility for the preparation and conduct of instructional activities and/or programs aimed at promoting educational, emotional, social and/or personal development.
Substitution of Education for Experience: 

1) Possession of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for six (6) months of the required Specialized Experience.2) Possession of a Fifth Year teaching certificate from an accredited college or university or possession of a Master’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required Specialized Experience.3) Possession of a PhD. in education or a related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for all of the Specialized Experience.

Selective Certification Requirement - Driver's License: This position requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: In accordance with the PREA Federal law, the Hawai`i State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities who:
 
a. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution;
b. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;
c. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or
d. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
