ABOUT THE JOB

Hawaii Preparatory Academy is seeking a qualified Long-Term Substitute - Athletic Trainer to join our team for approximately two months from September 15 to December 1. Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer will coordinate the athletic training program, providing emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation for injured athletes, and maintaining the athletic training facility. Essential duties include injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and communication with coaches and health services. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree, National Athletic Trainers Association Certification, state licensure, and preferably experience as an athletic trainer. In addition to the role, there is the possibility of housing and meals being provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates all facets of the training room in Castle Gymnasium; keeps the room clean, organized, and safe.
  • Orders, maintains, and replaces all equipment and materials for the training room; works within the budget given by AD.
  • Ensures that the training room is open from 1:00 - 6:00 pm on Monday through Friday for regular daily afternoon sports. Coordinates schedule with AD to cover the needs of Varsity/JV teams throughout the school year.
  • Attends ALL home athletic contests throughout the school year. Is very VISIBLE and provides support to all athletic teams throughout the school year and during sports camps.
  • Travels to away contests with football and other sports when there are no conflicts with home matches.
  • Coordinates schedule with AD to travel with teams to off-island HHSAA play whenever possible.
  • Works with other Athletic Trainers of BIIF to "cover" the needs of the league throughout the school year. Works with student team managers to coordinate practices/game coverage throughout the school year (including school vacation time).
  • Works with HPA Health Services to ensure that all necessary health forms of athletes have been completed and are on file; communicates and coordinates with Health Services to meet the needs of students - rehab work, travel to doctors/hospital, contacting parents with information, etc.
  • Maintains a thorough log of all injuries, treatments, and recommendations of all student/athletes.
  • Management of the Concussion Protocol Program for student athletes.
  • Communicates with ALL coaches with regard to "injured" athletes on their teams.
  • Conducts research and provides instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine.
  • Recommends special diets in order to improve athletes' health, increase their stamina, and/or alter their weight.
  • Communicates with ALL coaches with regard to concerns about student/athletes (diet, pre-season conditioning, rehab, water intake, etc).
  • Participates in on-campus Athletic Camps including Summer Football Camp, Thanksgiving Soccer Tournaments, and other athletic events.
