Hawarden Regional Healthcare is a growing Critical Access Hospital located on the Iowa/South Dakota Border between Sioux Falls, SD and Sioux City, IA. We are proud to have top of the line equipment with a 160 slice CT scanner, Digital Radiography, 3D Mammography, Ultrasound, Bone Densitometry, and C-arm. In May, the department will be expanding with the addition of a new MRI suite. This position will perform diagnostic imaging, bone densitometry, c-arm, and will cross-train into both CT & MRI.
Under the direction of the Radiology Manager and the technical direction of the Radiologist, administers roentgen rays in the performance of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures by attending physicians. Operates radiation-producing equipment, while utilizing proper radiation protection principles. Prepare patients exam rooms, equipment, supplies and medications. Processes exposed radiographic films, performs general office duties, and provides patient services using imaging modalities. Initiates life support measures when required. Essential Job Functional Competencies: | |
1. | Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission. |
2. | Produces quality radiographs by selecting the proper equipment, calibration and technique, by insuring proper development and preparation for viewing by physician. Reports any equipment problems to manager. |
3. | Prepares patient for procedure by assisting to proper position. Answers any questions or concerns raised by patient. Reports any variance in patient condition. |
4. | Follows prescribed safety standards and governmental regulations to insure the safety of the patient and other hospital personnel, including lead shielding. |
5. | Assists the physician in administering or injecting radio/opaque media by prepping the patient, preparing the dye, screening the patient, etc. |
6. | Assists in performing first aid in emergency cases. |
7. | Performs portable radiological procedures utilizing sterile techniques in surgery, emergency room or inpatient rooms. |
8. | Performs miscellaneous departmental administrative tasks, such as answering the telephone, filing, checking and updating patient files, calling reports to patients’ floors, etc., and when necessary, serves as patient escort. |
9. | May be called on to supervise the department on weekends or at times when supervisor is not immediately available. |
10. | Handles on call responsibilities with timeliness, efficiencies, and proper attitude. |
11. | Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes. |
12. | Maintains stock supplies in exam rooms. |
13. | Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) |
14. | Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business. |
15. | Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration. |
16. | Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. |
