Editor-In-Chief, MM M

Overview
As editor-in-chief, your central role is to be the public face of the brand. You will be a dynamic content strategy leader with a facile understanding of audience engagement, product development and event programming. You will be a thought leader and brand champion in the medical marketing space with a brand vision that resonates with our core audiences.


Specific responsibilities


Leadership
  • Manage and mentor a team of journalists and content specialists to best leverage our award-winning content to attract the right audiences and grow revenue.
  • Ensure good communication and teamwork both with the content and commercial teams as well as cross functionally.
  • Encourage and develop all staff members, offering one-to-one coaching and assistance where necessary.
  • Manage training of staff.
  • Conduct recruitment interviews, formal appraisals, and salary reviews.

Strategy
  • Develop editorial and product strategies that support audience and brand growth.
  • Deep background in launching and leveraging newsletters to grow audience and engagement
  • Leverage industry relationships and build strong internal partnerships to best deliver on MM M’s editorial and commercial interests.
  • Ideate and execute new product launches from concept to launch.
  • Communicate strategy to all staff, ensuring that everyone is aware of common goals and targets, and that they have the resources necessary to execute flawlessly and ensure organizational systems are easily understood and managed in your absence.
  • Demand the highest standards of journalism and content production.
  • Monitor rival brands and adjust coverage/performance to compete.
  • Recognizes and anticipates changes in the marketplace and adjusts content and resources accordingly
  • Develop new products and revenue streams

Day to day
  • Oversee production schedules in partnership with your senior staff, both editorial and commercial.
  • Take responsibility for quality control in everything that goes into your title.
  • Look for ways to improve efficiencies and workflows
  • Own editorial roadmap
  • Ensure the highest standards of accuracy, as well as having regard for tone, style, and legality of all content.
  • Generate ideas for editorial in digital, print, and custom content and live event programming.
  • Work with senior editors to ensure consistency of coverage across the title.
  • Ensure title operates within allocated budgets.
  • Set a high standard in terms of general behavior, appearance, and professionalism.
  • Manage and control all budgets allocated to your title.
  • Oversee the awards programs and adjust so they are relevant to the marketplace
  • Attendance at all in person events
  • 25% travel


Skills:

  • Excellent writing and literacy skills, including ability to subedit and proof read to a high standard
  • Experience and understanding building and leveraging data and research products for commercialization
  • At least 10 years of experience with content strategy and editorial oversight
  • Comprehensive understanding of content strategy and production across platforms
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills
  • Financial and commercial awareness
  • Excellent understanding of media law
  • Good market knowledge of the specific media in which you work
  • Excellent project management and people management skills
  • Time management and decision-making skills
  • An appreciation of the interrelationships of all media functions
  • Digital savvy with clear idea how to progress the brand to a digital-first future
  • Ability to understand and manage budgets, including forecasting
  • Bachelor's Degree Required

  • The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skill level, functional and/or industry knowledge, education level, certifications, as well as other qualifications.
