JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the class is to oversee jail inmates within the detention facility. The Detention Officer is responsible for security, inmate health and welfare to include: medical, mental health, family problems, feeding, religious needs, legal rights, housekeeping, laundry, and hygiene. The Detention Officer works according to procedures but decides how and when to perform tasks under general supervision.

Work Schedule:

The hours for this position consist of rotating shifts of 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. but are subject to change. This is a full-time position for Haywood County and all County provided benefits are available to this position.
