Job Summary And QualificationsUnder the general direction of the Director of Plant Operations, the Chief Engineer and the Plant Operations Supervisor, the Mechanic III is responsible for a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, and heating/air conditioning tasks to include installing and repairing equipment, and maintaining buildings and grounds as assigned. The Mechanic III is expected to be self-motivated with a high attention to detail and task ownership, ensuring that assigned projects/tasks are completed correctly and in a timely manner with minimal guidance.
What you will do in this role:
  • Installs and repairs various equipment types in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, maintenance schedules, and manufacturer specifications with minimal supervision.
  • Performs assigned preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with maintenance schedules and manufacturer specifications in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the inspection, installation, repair, and replacement of pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the water, gas, and draining system.
  • Constructs, repairs, and maintains furniture, wall partitions, cabinets, doors, windows, building framework, and related carpentry duties with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs heating and cooling plant equipment.
  • Manages self and others when required, to ensure projects and tasks are completed as scheduled.
  • Calculates quantities needed, orders, and maintains an inventory of supplies needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Performs cleanup duties in work areas.
  • Maintains all required documentation.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Employee reflects HCA values and a sensitivity to HCA ethics and compliance principles in his/her daily activities.
  • Utilizes power and hand tools safely and proficiently in the performance of position responsibilities.
  • Calculates quantity of materials and supplies needed to complete assigned projects
  • Utilizes appropriate principles related to safety and infection control in the provision of services
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in the moving and lifting of supplies and equipment
  • Utilizes appropriate precautions and related to infection control in relation to maintenance of equipment, supplies, the environment, and personal hygiene activities.
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Actively participates in the Department Performance Improvement Program related to position responsibilities.
  • Maintains own professional growth through appropriate in services and educational endeavors.
  • Develops, reviews, and manages the activities of self in collaboration with the Chief Engineer based on demand for service.
  • Maintains awareness of current developments and trends in the provision of services.
  • Actively participates in Departmental committees and group meetings with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of services in the facility.
  • Ensures that problems or concerns regarding the areas of responsibility are communicated with department management.
  • Lifting and Carrying- may be expected to lift 50-150 lbs. With assistance throughout shift
  • Pushing & Pulling- may be expected to push or pull 150-300 lbs with assistance on occasion.
  • Standing & Walking- Will likely be on his/her feet the majority of the shift to perform the essential functions of this job. Employee’s activities will be con-ducted over linoleum and carpeted floors.
  • Body Mechanics- will be expected to use proper body mechanics at all times.
  • Hand- use manual dexterity is essential to perform designated duties. Both fine and gross motor skills are required. Working speed my be crucial
  • Talking/Hearing- used constantly in all duties in person, phone, and groups. Must be able to hear high and low pitched sounds and speak clearly.
  • Visual Acuity- Near acuity will be necessary for making repairs. Far acuity will be necessary for moving supplies and equipment through facility. Color acuity will be necessary for identifying colors on repairs and installations of equipment
  • Physical Activity: D.O.T. Strength Rating: V – Very Heavy Work Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.
  • Working Hazards or Risks - routine hazards and risks involved in performing activities, including potential exposure to infectious processes, potential exposure to hazardous substances, potential musculoskeletal injuries.
What qualifications you will need:
  • High school graduate with some trade school or equivalent preferred.
  • Certifications in related fields preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in provision of building maintenance services.
  • Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in hospital or healthcare maintenance services.
