HCRS is Hiring a Nurse Manager Near Springfield, VT

Position PurposeResponsible for personnel, management and coordination of nursing service activities for a defined area in accordance with established philosophy, objectives and policies of the facility to ensure safe, efficient and therapeutic patient care. Works effectively with other departments. Nursing Manager supervises the nursing staff and medical assistants and informs them of new policies and procedures. Assists in supervising/training of unlicensed direct care staff in the performance of nursing tasks and activities. The nurse manager is responsible for the recruitment, retention, and training of the nurses and medical assistants within Developmental Services (DS) and AMHAS. Makes sure legal procedures, nursing laws, and work standards are met within both programs. Ensures the delivery of quality medical services are delivered to individual’s within the program. Coordinates with Medical Director, nursing staff, Program Directors, Supervisors, treatment teams and consumer family members or guardian to assure appropriate levels of care for consumers as outlined in DAIL regulations and the Vermont Nurse Practice Act. Assists program staff in meeting goals and objectives of the program. Participate in the S.A.F.E team on call system, as well as the nurse on-call system for Residential Services.
Principal Responsibilities And Duties
  • Establishes and achieves goals and objectives for each department consistent with organizational goals.
  • Assures a workplace environment and culture that optimizes patient care and patient safety to reduce the likelihood of health care errors.
  • Promotes and encourages a workplace environment that embraces a customer service philosophy in interactions with all patients, visitors, staff and vendors.
  • Demonstrates a workplace that is committed to HCRS mission and core values as outlined in the strategic plan.
  • Fosters a teamwork approach when problem solving.
  • Effectively hires, retains, motivates, praises and disciplines staff as appropriate.
  • Insures appropriate staffing levels with competent, team-oriented employees.
  • Performs effective and timely annual performance evaluations of staff.
  • Provides ongoing coaching, mentoring, recognition and feedback to all staff.
  • Plans and implements staff development activities. Provides education to staff on performance improvement plans and patient safety initiatives.
  • Ensures that staff is competent and up to date with required mandatories.
  • Responsible for effectively supporting, championing and communicating strategic organizational initiatives to staff, particularly in the area of quality service and patient safety.
  • Demonstrates an ability to lead cultural change for staff.
  • Maintains performance improvement activities for department/unit and collaborates as necessary with HCRS leadership in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising and monitoring performance improvement activities.
  • Identifies, collects, and reports relevant statistical data to reflect the activities of the department and staff.
  • Establishes and maintains policies, procedures and documentation standards for the department.
  • Follows all organizational policies and procedures outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual of HCRS.
  • Prepares and adheres to an annual operating budget for department/unit and manages the staff and department consistent with budgetary goals.
  • Attends required management meetings and in-services.
  • Completes required mandatory education, e-learning courses assigned to improve skills and professional development courses required to maintain competency.
  • Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests.
  • Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from other health care professionals.
  • Acts as the Infection Control Officer for the Agency.
Scope Of PositionThe Nursing Manager assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility for designated areas. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate patient care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility. The nurse manager assists in administrative efficiencies through the medical services area and works closely with the Medical Director in the coordination and monitoring of day to day operations of nursing services and medical assistants in designated area.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities to successfully perform this job: Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a behavioral health care setting. Has strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities. Ability to make presentations before top management, public groups, and staff. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
RelationshipsThe nurse manager reports directly to the Medical Director. The nurse manager collaborates with HCRS Directors and other healthcare professionals along with State agencies.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCEBSN or ADN with equivalent managerial experience.
VT RN licensure required.
Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to listen effectively. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to senior management, public groups, and groups of employees.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to understand and contribute to statistical operations used in research and quality management. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulae, scientific equations, graphs, etc.). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsState of Vermont Registered Nurse license required.
CPR certification
