Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs analyses for hazard identification, evaluation and control using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques typically used in the design of aircraft weapon systems and sustainment activities

• Leads System Safety Analyses including Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Safety Analysis (SSA), and others

• Performs qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses to conduct risk assessments and trade studies needed to evaluate and optimize design choices and recommend appropriate controls to mitigate safety hazards.

• Coordinates system safety activities with design teams, suppliers, internal management and external customers

• Understands of adjacent disciplines for efficient collaboration and trade-offs supporting all program objectives

• Establishes software safety requirements in accordance with the appropriate standard and evaluating the functional impacts of noncompliance in coordination with design SMEs
• Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization

• Adheres to all quality and safety standards
• Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned
• Available for limited travel

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Does not directly supervise others, but may indirectly guide less experienced engineers

Years Experience
Level of Education
3 - 5 years' experience in systems safety
BS required in systems safety, aerospace engineering, computer software or closely related technical discipline; Master's degree preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Must be able to speak, read and understand English
• Expertise in the application of MILSTD-882E in design development
• Experience in generation of required artifacts such as System Safety Program Plans, System Safety Analysis Reports, and Functional Hazards Analysis Reports
• Extensive experience in the application of safety principles and methods to mature the weapons systems design for safety and support of complex systems
• Experience with Agile Methodologies
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Windchill Quality Solutions experience preferred
• Software development experience preferred
• Experience using DO-178 of software development and safety
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certificate
• Weapons System experience (Minuteman II or similar military or industry experience)
• Model Based Systems Engineering experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment

• Work is accomplished in a typical office environment with adequate environmental (heating/cooling) control. The noise level in the work environment is moderate due to noises associated with computer equipment and environmental control systems.
• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
• Access to operations and manufacturing areas may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, oils, and fluctuations in temperature

• Performs all work in accordance with safety and workmanship and good housekeeping specifications
