Head Start California is Hiring an Engagement Coordinator Near Sacramento, CA

Engagement Coordinator (EC) 

Head Start California (HSC), a 501(c)(3) association, is seeking a new Engagement Coordinator (EC). We serve Head Start teachers, health professionals, and administrators who in turn serve our state’s children from at-risk backgrounds. By joining the HSC team, you’ll become part of a decades long movement to end the generational cycle of poverty with early education and interventions.

The EC supports the key logistical needs of the association. The role requires a high degree of organization and flexibility, as the priorities of the position will frequently shift. This is a hybrid role with one day a week required in the office. The EC works with all staff, and reports to the Events Director. The EC advances the interests of HSC through four primary responsibilities:

  • Support key HSC events - HSC events are a major source of budgeted revenue. EC responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

-Assisting with the selection and confirmation of speakers for HSC signature events including session proposal review and approval of workshop content. 

-Drafting communications for speakers and attendees prior to event (reminders, training invitations & instructions, evaluations and thank you notes, etc.). 

  • Member Engagement - assist with member meetings, manage, design, and create content for social media, and help with HSC webinars. 
  • Support HSC contract and grant requirements – draft reports, assist with surveys, and obtain and organize information from a variety of sources. 
  • Advocacy Coordination – scheduling legislative visits, and help coordinate advocacy communications.

  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks. 
  • Strong information skills with the ability to collect, organize, summarize, and simplify information from multiple sources orally and in writing. 
  • Good team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a positive team culture. Strong communication skills, and the ability to build relationships. 
  • Ability to work with diverse people and cultures, with an understanding of cultural awareness practices. 
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to quickly and thoroughly learn new programs, including, Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, etc.), Zoom, Salesforce, Canva, and PheedLoop 
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to travel to HSC events. 

Ideal and required qualifications include:

  • 2 years' successful related experience
  • Associate’s degree in event management, hospitality, communications, or related field (or an additional two years’ relevant experience). 
  • Experience in social media marketing, promotion, ad buys, etc. 
  • Bilingual / biliterate preferred but not required 
  • Experience in a Head Start program or nonprofit association preferred but not required 

This is a full-time non-exempt position working approximately 35-38 hours a week with a compensation range of $27.00 – $29.00 per hour and bonus eligibility. This position is primarily remote, with one partial day per week in our Sacramento office, plus in-office event preparation days as needed. HSC offers full benefits including medical, dental/vision, flex spending plan, 403(b) with automatic 4% company contribution, vacation, sick time, and holidays.
