Health Care for Kids is Hiring a PRN Pediatric Licensed Practical Nurse - Crestview Near Crestview, FL

General Purpose of Position:

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Responsible for the client’s personal care needs and surrounding and may supply temporary relief (respite) for the client’s primary caregiver. The LPN provides care in the PPEC facility (nursing facility).

Medical Transport Technician: Responsible for the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items to their destinations.

Duties:

LPN:

  • Daily comprehensive assessments for each child
  • Nursing interventions: tube feedings, g-tube care, tracheostomy care, respiratory care, ostomy care, hygiene
  • Medication administration via multiple routes including oral, gastric-tube, injections
  • Parent/Caregiver Education
  • Medical Assistant / CNA supervision
  • Interventions to foster normal child development
  • Communicate with and coordinate care between interdisciplinary health team including physicians, nurse case managers, therapists, dietitians, etc.

Medical Transport Technician:

  • Properly and safely transports patients, secures IVs, drainage tubes, etc., and secures patient.
  • In accordance with the transportation of patients, uses wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to carry out the essential duties of the position.
  • Demonstrates competency in transporting pediatric patients.
  • Ensures the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination using the proper requested equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians or reception and dispatch.
  • Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive. Offers blankets, checks modesty and only engages in appropriate conversation involving patients.
  • Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
  • Maintains equipment and reports equipment needing repairs.
  • Complies with regulatory agency standards, including federal and state.
  • Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient’s rights policy as outlined in the facilities HIPPA policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Appropriate level of entry degree to practice as a licensed practical nurse in the State of Florida
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification, and annual TB screening
  • A current license to practice as a licensed practical nurse in Florida. Two (2) years’ experience in pediatric extended care or a related field. Experience working with the kids, physically and mentally disabled is preferred.
  • Knowledge of:

1) current methods of PPEC management

2) the provision of personal care

3) the ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others

4) to evaluate situations

5) make decisions

6) to communicate and deal effectively with others

7) must be able to pass a criminal background check, TB test, and CPR/First Aide certified.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Environment: Work is performed primarily in a PPEC setting with extensive patient contact. Due to the nature of the work, the LPN may be exposed to bodily fluids and odors on an occasional basis.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work with a patient; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 30 lbs); and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • Vision: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing: Hear in a normal audio range, with or without correction.
