Job Role Summary This position will be responsible for providing Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) education to students within the school system. This position will provide lesson plans, assignments and other activities that will elicit student participation. This program will increase academic and social competence with the following skills: study habits and academic support; communication; peer relationships; self-efficacy and assertiveness; drug resistance skills; reinforcement of anti-drug attitudes; and strengthening of personal commitments against drug abuse. The position will be responsible for assisting schools with developing methods to provide prevention education to the targeted students, working with students to increase their knowledge about ATOD and to encourage students to participate in programs that are directed toward behavior change. Associated Job Duties Educate students with ATOD and how to reduce risk their risks. Provide a variety of ATOD presentations to the identified student populations. Disseminate information about ATOD to students and schools. Responsible for oversight of program development and working with schools implementation of ATOD programs. Develop and facilitate policies and procedures for the ATOD program. Develop an evaluation methodology by which to assess the impact of the ATOD programs, both internally and externally. Coordinate and monitor data collection and accuracy. Prepare reports on all ATOD activities and present to designated committees. Develop and implement a student satisfaction program. Serve as the liaison between MCHD and Indianapolis Public School District (IPS). Assists in consumer development and increasing consumer involvement in program activities. Develops performance improvement measures and procedures based on core service needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Policy Development and Leadership: Supports the MCHD vision and mission through department presence in the community. Establishes and maintains effective lines of communication and collaboration with IPS, targeted populations and other program areas within the MCHD. Assists in the development of programs objectives that target identified student populations at risk Develop, implement and maintain protocols, policies and procedures for the SUOS program. Ensure that all personnel actions are in accordance with Health and Hospital Corporation polices and procedures. Serve on appropriate committees and task forces as assigned. Participation in Health Fairs. Qualifications Completion of a Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Substance Abuse Education or allied health field is preferred; or three years related experience and training; equivalent combination of education and experience. Credentialed and licensed substance abuse counselor. Two years' experience in program planning and evaluation. Experience in providing outreach and health education services. Ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and three to five years of progressively responsible professional work experience. Licenses/Certifications Required Credentialed and licensed substance abuse counselor. Working Environment Standard office environment. Exposure to communicable disease, illness and irate community members. Some physical effort associated with filing, carrying of supplies for health fairs, travel between main office and meetings, program site(s), and health fairs.
