Position Function:
The Counseling and Sport Psychology (CSP) Department and Department of Sports Medicine and Performance are seeking a full-time Associate Director of CSP. This position provides a unique opportunity for a Sport Psychologist trained under a generalist model and who has an interest in psychological evaluations. The successful candidate will be responsible for: provision of psychoeducational and psychological evaluations; provision of general counseling & sport psychology services (evaluation, treatment, and education); assist with coordination and provision of consultation to coaches, athletic trainers, and other athletic department staff; and the potential to supervise pre-and-post doctoral interns. Additionally, the position is responsible for supporting implementation of philosophies, policies, and procedures of clinical and sport psychology service operations for student-athletes.
This is a full-time position with the Department of Athletics. The position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Counseling and Sport Psychology and will take close direction from the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance as a member of an integrative care team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical and sport-performance services for student-athletes including evaluation, treatment planning, progress monitoring, re-evaluation, and possible referral based on evidence based practices.
2. Complete and supervise psychological evaluations to inform diagnostic decision making and treatment planning and to facilitate referrals for psychopharmacological interventions.
3. Collaborate with Athletic Academic Support Services on psychoeducational screenings and complete and supervise intellectual and learning disability evaluations to inform requests for academic accommodations.
4. Coordinate drug and alcohol assessment and counseling for the Athletic Department in accordance with MSU Athletics departmental policy.
5. Provide consultation regarding mental health crisis interventions and risk assessments; assist with facilitating higher level of care services for emergency mental health presentations when appropriate.
6. Assist with providing daytime, evening, and weekend crisis intervention and emergency services in situations involving individual student-athletes and/or teams.
7. Collaboration with CSP departmental members and key stakeholders for the wellbeing of MSU student-athletes (could include- Sports Medicine, Student-Athlete Development, Academic Support Services, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Administrators, Student Counseling Services, Student Affairs, Parents, etc.).
8. Attend assigned MSU Athletics events such as team practices, competitions, and other activities to raise awareness and visibility of the Counseling & Sport Psychology Department.
9. Assist with providing presentations for student-athletes, coaches, and Athletic Department staff members as requested by the director or groups.
10. Assist with providing supervision to interns, post-doctoral externs, and individuals seeking certification as a mental performance coach as outlined by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, if applicable.
11. Complete clinical documentation and maintain health records and protected health information (PHI); compile and report data regarding utilization of MSU CSP psychological evaluation services.
12. Perform special functions for the department as requested by supervisors and/or the Director of Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology with 2-4 years in Emerging Adult Population. Competence and experience with intellectual (e.g., WAIS), personality (e.g., PAI, MMPI), and psychoeducational (e.g., WJ, WRAT) measures and evaluations; expertise in one or more of the following areas is also required: experience with stress management, substance abuse and alcohol education, eating disorders, crisis management, depression, anxiety, grief, identity development, learning disabilities and other psychological issues related to injury, rehabilitation and return to sport in competitive athletes.
Current independent licensure and/or licensure eligible in the State of Mississippi within 12-months of hire. Please review https://www.psychologyboard.ms.gov/ for licensure information in Mississippi.
Licensure must be maintained as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
•2 years' post-doctoral experience providing mental health services to athletes or serving as a primary mental health provider/consultant to a sport organization.
•Experience providing evidence-based sport performance consultation to athletic teams.
•Advanced training in Sport Psychology, such as certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) as outlined by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of psychotherapy and clinical/counseling psychology.
2. Knowledge of sport psychology and performance enhancement.
3. Competency working with diverse groups; support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
4. Ensure all assigned tasks are in compliance with University, SEC, and NCAA rules.
5. Knowledge of and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and professional standards endorsed by licensing professional organization.
6. Ability to conceptualize, diagnose problems, and implement appropriate treatment solutions.
7. Ability to make accurate judgments concerning the physical, emotional, and educational welfare of student-athletes.
8. Ability to present and represent Mississippi State University at local, national, and international conferences.
9. Knowledge of community-based mental health resources.
10. Work with externally imposed deadlines set and revised beyond one's control.
11. Ability to work with interruptions that influence priorities.
12. Ability to adapt to the potential of changing nature and volume of work with minimal certainty beyond a few days.
13. Strong work ethic.
14. Ability to travel.
15. This position will work non-traditional and irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
