Responsibilities
- Provide high quality occupational therapy services based on individual therapy plans.
- Assures continuation of therapeutic plan up to and following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment/follow up programs.
- Promptly and thoroughly documents and maintains clinical and administrative records regarding patient limitations/interventions, treatments, responses and progress to administered therapy as well as discharge summaries.
- Maintains patient records confidentially.
- Records treatment charges daily and completes documentation in accurate and timely manner.
- Complies with the applicable State Occupational Therapy Practice Act, codes and regulations.
- Attend team meetings and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic services.
- Participate in parent, community, and professional training efforts.
- Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
- Maintains clean work area, clean treatment rooms and requests needed supplies.
- Maintains professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and other professionals as it relates to collaboration of care for the patient.
- Keeps regular clinic hours as approved by Manager.
- Directs all patient scheduling matters through the front desk coordinator.
- Attends meetings as requested and performs other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of principles, techniques, materials and equipment in pediatric occupational therapy.
- Ability to evaluate a patient’s occupational therapy needs and communicate the patient’s needs to the legal guardian and/or appropriate parties involved in the patient’s care.
- Ability to communicate with a high degree of written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of CPT & ICD 10 coding procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of computer programs (EMRs)
- Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current license or eligible for license under statutes in the state of practice.
- Prefer experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident population served by this facility.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to understand and follow the directions of the Occupational Therapist and the policies and procedures of the facility.
- Ability to complete the following activities safely, and at times, for prolonged periods:
- Standing: Maintaining an upright position on the feet, especially for prolonged periods of time
- Pushing: Applying pressure and exerting force against an object for the purpose of moving it forward or away from the source of the force – push or pull force up to 35 lbs.
- Lifting: Raising an object from a lower to a higher position, or moving an object laterally, from position to position-Required to lift up to 50 lbs of force independently. May be required to lift over 50 lbs with assistance of another person or a mechanical lift
- Stooping: Bending the body forward and down from the waist, hips and knees, sometimes for a prolonged length of time. -Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction away from the body
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces
