Job Title: Senior Accountant Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer Date Revised: 05/21/2024
Dept./School: Central Administration
Primary PurposePerforms advanced accounting work relating to the preparation, administration, and control of the district’s financial resources.
QualificationsEducation/Certification:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
Accounting Experience PreferredSpecial Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB)
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data
Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and recommend improved procedures
Knowledge of computerized accounting systems
Ability to use personal computer and software to develop complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and databases
Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Experience2-5 years of accounting experience at a high level of responsibility
Major Responsibilities And DutiesAccounting
  • Prepare annual district budget including communicating with department heads, coordinating loading of data, and keying of budget data.
  • Prepare and calculate budget amendments as necessary.
  • Prepare timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal, state, and GASB standards.
  • Prepare all financial Public Information Management (PEIMS) data.
  • Complete and prepare data for journal entry and budget transfers.
  • Monitor and reconcile expenditures with budget availability.
  • Perform back reconciliations and/or accounting for grant expenditures
  • Work with administrators, principals, directors, and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.
  • Oversee monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts. Review reconciliations of vendor and payroll clearing accounts.
  • Assist with administration of the business office budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
Policy, Records, Reports & Laws
  • Prepare periodic budget report for board of trustees.
  • Record, store, and analyze information using accounting software.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements.

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in area of business operations.
