Hearst is Hiring an Analyst, State & Local Tax Near Charlotte, NC

Job DescriptionThe position requires someone with a solid foundation in U.S. corporate state income tax. An understanding of federal income tax principles is a plus. The candidate should have 3 to 5 years of public accounting or large company in-house corporate state and local income tax experience. The position’s salary and title will be commensurate with the individual’s experience.
Position Summary:
  • Prepare and review state apportionment factor data in consultation with business finance teams, for both wholly owned entities and joint ventures.
  • Review state apportionment and sourcing laws, particularly revenue sourcing methodologies.
  • Prepare state tax return workpapers.
  • Review state tax returns prepared by third-party CPA firm.
  • Assist with state income tax audits.
  • Assist with state income tax planning initiatives.
  • Assist with state income tax scenarios planning, particularly in the M&A context.
  • Assist with the preparation of the company’s tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 (formerly FAS 109 and FIN 48).
  • Assist with other special projects as assigned.
  • Research tax issues and draft memorandum.
  • Seek out process improvements.
Successful Candidate Will Possess a Combination of the following Personal Characteristics:
  • Ability to juggle concurrent projects and smoothly move from project to project with little advance notice.
  • Desire to work in a flexible “team-based” environment.
  • Willing to get involved in ad-hoc planning projects.
  • Proficiency with excel or other data management or data mining software tools.
Education:B.S. or similar degree in Accounting; Masters in tax is a plus; C.P.A. is a plus.
