Heartwood Montessori School is Hiring a Children’s Montessori House (3yrs - 6 yrs) Full-Time Assistant Near Minneapolis, MN

Position: Children’s House Full-Time Assistant

Heartwood Montessori School is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Children’s House Full-Time Assistant for the 2024-25 school year. The assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Montessori environment, working closely with the guide to ensure the holistic development of each child.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Guide: Collaborate closely with the guide to facilitate the implementation of Montessori principles and practices.
  • Prepare and Maintain Environment: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the Montessori environment as directed by the guide, ensuring it supports the spiritual, social, physical, emotional, and intellectual development of the children.
  • Attendance and Records: Maintain accurate attendance records and assist in the maintenance of classroom records as directed.
  • Special Needs Assistance: Provide additional support to students with special needs, ensuring they receive appropriate attention and assistance.
  • Environment Maintenance: Partner with the lead guide to clean the classroom environment, refill supplies, and properly store all classroom and bathroom supplies.
  • Material Care: Assist in the care and maintenance of classroom materials, including preparation of snacks and day-to-day environmental duties.
  • Curriculum Support: Aid in the preparation of curriculum materials as directed by the guide.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Repair materials and equipment as necessary or directed to ensure a safe and functional learning environment.
  • Positive Communication: Phrase directives positively when speaking with the children and work with individual and small groups as directed by the guide.
  • Safety and Well-being: Share responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times, ensuring classroom ratios are maintained both indoors and outdoors.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with the maintenance of the classroom inventory and report any incidents or accidents promptly.
  • Parent Communication: Where appropriate, support Guide with parent conferences in fall and spring, share questions and observations with the guide as needed.
  • Professional Development: Take initiative in personal and professional development, seeking out opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Conflict Resolution: Notify the Head of School immediately of any personal or professional difficulties with children, parents, or staff.
  • Respect and Collaboration: Model integrity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all individuals, while collaborating with colleagues and school leadership to innovate within the school’s program and mission.
  • Staff Participation: Attend all staff meetings and professional development training relevant to supporting the diverse needs of children, licensing, and required training hours.
  • School Community: Positively contribute to and respect the well-being of Heartwood Montessori School, including its facility, students, parent community, board, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a Montessori environment is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to the Montessori philosophy and principles.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in early childhood education is a plus.

All applicants must:

  • qualify under MN Dept. Human Services’ Rule 3 as a lead or assistant teacher
  • pass a Federal background check
  • have, or be willing to attain, First Aid and CPR certification within the first 30 days of employment
  • have documentation of eligibility to work in the United States
  • demonstrate professionalism, reliability and show interest in personal growth and continued education.
