THIS IS AN IDEAL SITUATION FOR A PRE-OPTOMETRY STUDENT PLANNING TO TAKE 1-2 YEARS OFF (GAP YEAR) BEFORE GOING TO OPTOMETRY SCHOOL. WE'VE HAD A 100% SUCCESS RATE WITH PAST APPLICANTS MOVING ONTO OPTOMETRY SCHOOL TO BECOME DOCTORS. 💯

Heights Vision is a family-owned private optometry practice in Brooklyn Heights. We are seeking to hire a Pre-Optometry student to help with reception desk duties with the opportunity to cross-train into a technician assistant to the doctors. The candidate will be fully trained on the job and integrate skills into a practical work environment /doctor's office. This role is full-time.

The candidate will also learn to use Eyefinity, an application program used by many optometry offices in the country – this is a very real-world and valuable skill to have.

DETAILS BELOW

Front Desk Duties:

📞 Answer phones, emails, and digital faxes

📆 Schedule appointments electronically

📄 Obtain insurance verification and submit claims online

👁 Order contact lenses electronically

👩🏻‍🏫 Teach contact lens usage

🙌🏼 Advancement to Technician

🥼Technician Duties:

Auto-refraction, lensometry, visual acuity, retinal imaging (OCT), automated visual field, fundus photography

⏰ Availability:

Full-time hours, available to work 4-5 days including Saturday

Weekdays 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-5pm

💵 Salary: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Compensation is based on prior experience and skill level.

🦠 Medical Office:

This is a medical practice and all patients/staff are required to wear a mask in the office. The office is equipped with hand sanitizer, gloves, sterilized pens, air purifiers, etc.

⭐️ Upon completion of working in this role, the Pre-Health / Pre-Optometry student will have developed a better sense of professionalism in medicine, improved skills in effective communication, a clear understanding of vision care, and a better appreciation for the patient/physician relationship. From an educational standpoint, the candidate will receive mentorship from board-certified optometrists and opticians; with whom they'll work closely each day.
